Jan 15th 2008 5:46PM multichannel TrueHD and DTS-HD MA is coming, supposedly, in May via firmware. They think a disc compatibility firmware is coming in 2-4 weeks.
and contrary to what eric said, NOT everyone who has this player loves it. check avsforums to read about all the returns and cancelled orders.

Jan 12th 2008 7:46PM I don't see it as a 'report', its a heads up for a future review when he gets the player he's been waiting on. Why discount the forum posts when they are direct user feedback? He posted to AVS asking what users see as need addressed. I applaud this and think more reviews should be done this way, especially when potential buyers AND Samsung could benefit from it. With all the reported shortcomings this player needs more exposure.
I think combo players are great for the market, but we need to keep manufacturers accountable if we expect them to be any good.

Jan 12th 2008 5:52PM I had this on preorder and as angry as I was for it taking so long to hit retailers I'm GLAD it didn't before others got theirs. Why? Because after hearing all the problems I cancelled my preorder. It has its fair share of glitches but NO multichannel TrueHD or DTS-HD MA was the clincher. It's rumored multichannel will be available after a firmware in May, which is ridiculous even if they followed through and kept that date.
But hey, I hear they'll have a successor in October that will reportedly do what the 5000 was SUPPOSED to do. I guess they figured they could sell the 5000 and have consumers be their testers rather than pay their employees to do it in-house. BRILLIANT!

Dec 6th 2007 11:32AM my point is with all the BD and HD titles out they gave an award to a lossy soundtrack. Never did I claim lossless was always better. Transformers should have included the lossless soundtrack so I have a problem giving it recognition. Hi Def discs offer the large capacity for he highest video and audio quality so IMHO lossless should be standard not optional.
