Apr 23rd 2008 3:51PM the ps3 puts just about anything else in the sony line up to shame. blu-ray, media streaming, internet, music, etc. this isn't the only example of a technology they sell for hundreds that the ps3 does and a whole lot more for just 100 more. (or in the case of their blu-ray players, 100 less) they don't care. a ps3 makes sony more money for them in the long run anyway.

i wish it had a cable so the cpu and power supply could be hidden. but ohio well, i'm not complaining,...yet.

Apr 15th 2008 4:02PM that's part of the problem. because they were backing hd-dvd, they didn't have any orders with the few BD disc replicator companys (sony being one of, if not the biggest). all the other games and movie studios have had their orders lined up and authored for months. even if paramount, and universal finish authoring quickly, 9which i doubt in univerals case.) they have to wait in line behind others who already had orders in.
maybe paramount should use a little of that 150mil they got from toshiba to ask fox or warner to cut in line. or maybe not, the money lost for not launching a movie like transformers on BD with the dvd version is already gone, and those who would pick it up today likely will do so tommrow too.

Apr 15th 2008 9:49AM it's just funny that sony is beating itself badly with it's own machine, the ps3.
sony should remove the hard drive, expensive slot loading drive, bluetooth, media streaming, and game support, (leave in the internet browser), drop it in a bdp-s550 like box, give it bravia theather sync, an IR remote, a coaxial digital output, 7.1 analog outputs and sell this ps3 hybrid as a standalone 2.0 dtsHD/trueHD player at $50-70 above the current lowest ps3 sku.
now that sony is no longer selling the ps3 at a loss, this should be easy. because you are still paying more than the ps3 for fewer funtions, it will mostly attract the crowd that finds fault with owning a game console/don't like the way it looks/need IR or bravia theather sync/ or have older recievers without hdmi, without canibalising the sales of a higher consumer value ps3 game console that brings in even more cash over time with the game licences and digital download.
because it won't be doing as much as an actual ps3, you can save even more money by using failed 45nm cell processors that only have 6-7 working spus.
or you can build the ps3x for like a grand, but we all know how that kind of thing turns out.

let me get this straight, what you're saying is you want to be a pirate?
or that a feature of hd-dvd (to make copies) that you say is so great, is now open to BD thanks to slysoft and is no longer an advantage hd-dvd would have had at this point in the game if it was still alive?
