The falling price of the iPhone {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 20th 2007 11:29AM In some respects the iPhone is already free if you consider that the iPhone can be had at the same price as an iPod Touch. The fact that the iPod is embedded with the iPhone makes me believe that the iPhone will never be 100% subsidized by a cell carrier; but I do expect that over time the price differentiation between the iPod touch and the iPhone could be overwhelmingly in favor of the iPhone. This makes the unlocking aspect all the more interesting as Apple cannot afford to lose these iPhones without a contract. I suspect that we will soon see a "rebate on activation" with the iPhone sooner than later.

Rumor: Apple iPhone could be sold unlocked? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Nov 18th 2006 7:40PM Apple is going to release as an MVNO. They wont sell the phones unlocked since there would be no way to share in the monthly revenues. Think 2mp camera and .Mac accounts. Think iTunes integration. Think Bluetooth. Think about Family Plans and Disney partnership and a totally whole new way of thinking about your "contract".

Apple's agenda for the media event? {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 12th 2006 2:18AM I'm with niji, this sounds like a name designed to flush out the mole. Hey tuaw, please expose this goof when he is proven wrong tomorrow. Although I suppose that a ultra wide band usb dongle would certainly be feasable

BUT TUBEPORT.... FORGET IT

Amazon Unbox {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Sep 8th 2006 10:22PM To say it doesn't work on a mac is no longer accurate really. It's more correct to state that is doesn't run under OSX. It will run on a Mac under Parallas or Boot Camp.

Series 3 to be released September 17th, for $799? {Engadget HD}

Aug 28th 2006 3:53AM Figure they are throwing a 500 or 750g drive in there and that is 250-400 right there, plus another 100 for the cablecard support, and standard markup. 8 bills is a lot of money though. I don't buy it. I think 599 is the right number.

Apple special event on Sept. 25 {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}

Aug 22nd 2006 3:40AM Straight from the horses mouth. Apple is introducing the iFrame, 10" photoframe with ichat and isight integrated, built in airport, integration with .Mac accounts for dynamic photosharing. It's sweet.

How-To: Mod your espresso machine {Engadget}

Aug 8th 2006 5:18PM This was a really cool hack; I happened to have the spare PID and rotary, as well as the resoviour, tubing and fittings from an earlier failed project. I was surprised it only took a half hour! Who knew expresso could taste so good.

Time Warner does / doesn't support CableCARD TiVos {Engadget}

Jul 28th 2006 12:20PM The cable industry has done everything in their power to make using a cablecard near impossible for the consumer to obtain. They have no interest in supporting it or the multi-stream version that is in development. This eats into their revenue and by giving conflicting messages to the public and CSRs it further confuses the situation and increases the likelihood that a consumer will just cave in and get a set top box. trhe Tivo Series 3 is a dangerous device for the cable companies because it is the first device that consumers might actually buy and adopt. Say goodbye to the monthly box rental revenue, and PPV, and VOD, and interactive revenues. Tivo should rush this thing out the door as fast as possible. I'm actually surprised that it got cablelabs approval. No one in the industry wants to see consumers embrace cablecard. No one. The good news is that if this does take off it will force the multi-stream card development, and/or the opencable development that will create a more interactive, 2-way interface between the cable technology and end user devices.

Props to Engadget for posting this somewhat hot topic story. The guys in TWC have a lot of control and aren't afraid to throw it around inside time warner when an affiliated company steps on their turf. Ever wonder why AOL took so long to launch a VoIP product; or why TWC customers didn't get access to AOL content for free?
