Australia's Network Ten to launch 24-hour HD sports channel in 2009 {Engadget HD}

Oct 28th 2008 5:37PM Yes alas this isnt a new HD channel as the news is indicating here in AU. Ten is just taking their current HD channel and making it a decidated sports channel meaning we will no longer get any shows other than Sports in HD on Ten anymore. A terrible move really. They should have just created a 2nd SD channel and used that for sports and left the HD channel as it was. What about those who dont like sports Ten? Now we're stuck with only SD transmissions of shows. And they wonder why downloading of TV shows is so rampant in this country?

Corel's WinDVD 8 lands DTS-HD Master Audio certification {Engadget HD}

Jun 6th 2008 6:48AM CPU doesnt need to be anything to grand..as long as it passes the limits emposed by the playback app is all good. Most decent vid cards now support hardwre acceleration for all HD video codecs. So a lowend CPU coupled with a decent vid card that supports HW accelleration and you are all good.

With some help from Realtek, PowerDVD will support 24-bit lossless audio {Engadget HD}

Jun 5th 2008 6:58PM SO will this support bitstream output of all HD codecs(Truehd, dts HD MA)? or is this just support for loseless audio over PCM? IM guessing its the later as the baord would stil need to have a HDMI port to stream the HD codecs anyway. My gigiabyte board(about 1 year old now) had a sticker on it when i bought it saying it supported full BD and HD DVD audio but never understood exactly what that meant as the manual never mentioned anything about it.

Shrek the Third's HD DVD special features revealed {Engadget HD}

Sep 29th 2007 6:11AM Personally i think animation takes the most advantage of Hi Def. Real life films seem to add to much grain. I dont see this in any animated films. Films like Monster house, Open season, etcv look amazing in hi def. Shrek 3 should be no different.
