Poll: Have you purchased a Blu-ray player post-fallout? {Engadget HD}

May 3rd 2008 12:51PM Yes, I picked up the Samsung BD-UP5000 combo player after HD DVD died. It works great, and lets me keep playing all of my movies in a single player. And for the price I paid ($448) and the features it includes (best SD upconversion you can buy), it was a no-brainer for an HD DVD migrator like me.

Is your Comcast HD quality up to snuff? {Engadget HD}

Mar 20th 2008 7:57PM My Comcast QAM feeds look like crap. An upconverted SD DVD looks better than 90% of their HD feeds. How do I get this FIOS that you speak of?

Samsung dishes out v1.2 firmware update for BD-UP5000 {Engadget HD}

Mar 12th 2008 11:28PM To clarify, Samsung released firmware 1.1 a week and a half ago, which addressed a number of playback issues with several films; however, the update also broke the network connection of the player. A week later, they released firmware 1.2 which is identical to 1.1 except with ethernet connectivity returned.

Audiophiles can't tell the difference between Monster Cable and coat hangers {Engadget HD}

Mar 3rd 2008 8:39PM The reason consumers keep buying Monster cables isn't because they think they can see or hear an improvement, it's because Best Buy monkeys are trained to convince consumers it's totally worth it to spend $100 on cabling if they're buying an HDTV.

Wait for Blu-ray player prices to sink, or just buy in now? {Engadget HD}

Feb 25th 2008 1:11PM Yes. People should wait for a price of $199 or less and Profile 2.0 compatibility.

Microsoft holding off on HD DVD reaction, thinks "games" sell consoles {Engadget}

Feb 18th 2008 12:35PM Wouldn't Microsoft backing Blu-Ray only pad the pockets of their number one competitor in the game market?

Poll: So, what are you HD DVD early adopters going to do? {Engadget HD}

Feb 16th 2008 1:14PM With Studio support split, it was always my intention to support both formats eventually, once Blu-Ray prices came down and they finished their format. I'll pick up a combo player in the coming months, hopefully at a couple $100 less than they are now. It's just a shame HD DVD's demise is happening before Blu is affordable or finished.

Ask Engadget HD: Is it finally safe to buy a Blu-ray player? {Engadget HD}

Feb 13th 2008 12:57PM It won't be a good time to buy a Blu-Ray player until A.) they cost $199 or less and B.) they finish their format so you don't get stuck with a player that can never use all of the promised features.

How would you change Apple's MacBook Air? {Engadget}

Feb 9th 2008 7:22PM I'd drop the price by $1,000. Considering it's a 2-year-old MacBook with half its guts removed, $799 seems reasonable. And $1,799 is more than most people spend on their primary computer; $799 seems like a fair price for what can by-design only function as a secondary machine.

Poll: Are you satisfied with your HD service? {Engadget HD}

Feb 9th 2008 12:59PM No Siree. I've got Comcast in the Minneapolis/St Paul area. There are far too few HD channels, and way too much compression on the ones we do have. While there's a night and day difference from the standard-definition channels, a lot of the HD programming (Fox especially) has poorer picture quality than a standard-definition DVD.
