No DirecTV HD for Vista Media Center until 2010? {Engadget HD}

Jul 7th 2008 12:28PM I'll try posting this again, since my last post disappeared.

I am dreaming. Obviously we won't see Tivo support DirectTV until they kiss and make up, and I doubt it will be in the form of the HDPC-20. My comment was more of a shot at Microsoft's schedule slippage than anything else. We've been waiting for the HDPC-20 for what seems like forever. Now we hear that Microsoft might not support it until 2010, what a load a crap. If DirecTV would hand it over to Tivo then they would have it integrated with the TivoHD in 3 months. It's ridiculous that we have to wait 2 years for Microsoft to put the necessary hooks into Vista. I can't imagine DirecTV is too excited about this thing being shelved for 2 more years.

Used to have one, but I dumped it because they are a pain in the A#@.

No DirecTV HD for Vista Media Center until 2010? {Engadget HD}

Jul 7th 2008 10:36AM Any bets on whether the Tivo will support DirecTV before Microsoft does? I'd love to plug the HDPC-20 into my TivoHD. I'm sure as heck not using the USB ports for anything else. DirecTV is missing a golden opportunity to win back a bunch of cable customers once the analog shutoff kicks in. I personally use my TivoHD for OTA and analog cable. As soon as Comcast flips the switch I'll have to decide whether I want to use cable card or switch to satellite. If DirecTV allowed me to use the HDPC-20 with my TivoHD I'd switch today.

Engadget HD Podcast 090 - 06.26.2008 {Engadget HD}

Jul 4th 2008 7:34PM I just listened to the podcast today and I had to chime in about "There Will Be Blood". I absolutely loved that movie. Daniel Day-Lewis was incredible, and I couldn't stop thinking about his rant in the bowling alley for days. My brother watched it in the theater 3 times. I guess it's one of those love it or hate it films.

TiVo Series 3 coming to Australia next month {Engadget HD}

Jun 24th 2008 10:18AM That's strange. Why sell the series3 and not the TivoHD? I'm sure the TivoHD is much cheaper for Tivo to manufacturer. They must have a stock pile of Series3 box them sitting in a warehouse somewhere that they want to unload.

Poll: What's your favorite HD movie channel? {Engadget HD}

May 22nd 2008 5:49PM I'm stilling living with OTA HD and basic analog cable. Once Comcast flips the analog switch I'll be forced to either pickup a CableCard for my TivoHD or consider other alternatives. I was content with HD-DVD until Netflix gave them the finger. There are still quite a few HD-DVD's on my queue but that's fading fast.

Netflix Player by Roku: $100 streaming video player {TV Squad}

May 22nd 2008 5:45PM Netflix should work with Toshiba to add streaming support to existing HD-DVD players. All HD-DVD players can decode H.264, MPEG2 and VC1, plus they have ethernet. It's seems like it should be possible to add Netflix support via a firmware update. There are supposedly 100k standalone HD-DVD players in the wild. My HD-A2 is basically collecting dust since Netflix dumped HD-DVD. I'd love to move it to the bedroom and use it to watch Netflix and the occasional DVD. Netflix would immediately see a huge jump in their subscriber base, and Toshiba would win a few people back over the HD-DVD debacle.
