Engadget HD CES schwag giveaway: Blu-ray discs and more {Engadget HD}

How would you change Canon's EOS 5D Mark II? {Engadget}

Jan 2nd 2009 10:46PM I've had the camera for over a month and I love it. I would add one more fps (to 5), the 1 series AF system, and as much weather sealing as humanly possible. Finally, I would add manual exposure control to the video (which I hope they'll do in a firmware update.)

Wishful thinking on all Canon models... I'd like a built-in radio transceiver and a 580 ex III to match so I could dump the spotty ST-E2.

Side notes: No black dot problems for me. I'm really glad they don't have the integrated grip. I much prefer the option, which is a major reason I upgraded to this from the 1 Series bodies. The thumbwheel and ergonomics are great once you get used to them, so leave it alone.

Dec 20th 2008 10:25PM Um, if you're shooting with studio strobes, you should be in manual mode, which pretty much prevents the camera from over exposing unless you have your settings wrong. Where did you see this?

Canon acknowledges, doesn't fix black dot and band problems on 5D Mark II {Engadget}

Dec 19th 2008 11:38AM This is pretty misleading. That "sample" image is zoomed in to 400 or 800%. If you print the photo or look at it at anything under 100% on a monitor, these black spots are pretty much invisible.

The vast majority of people complaining about this are people who do not have, and will never have this camera. The very few who have this camera and complain about this problem are retired engineers who have nothing better to do than criticize cameras.

I hope Canon fixes it soon just to shut these people up.

Nov 14th 2008 10:13PM Move the on/off switch and the row of buttons from below the lcd screen. I had a 40D (which is the same body design) and the damn thing would turn itself on and the buttons - including delete!- would accidentally get pressed when it hit my belt. Other than that, not much.

Aug 15th 2008 11:47AM The Media Center update was probably restricted to OEM because of the dumb accounting rules that Sarbanes Oxley puts on companies. Microsoft can't distribute it for free the same why the iTouch updates cost money. They didn't account for them on a subscription basis.

How much does it cost to just leave your HDTV plugged in? {Engadget HD}

Jul 29th 2008 10:47PM If they would include a small battery in the tv, then you could turn off a power strip when you weren't watching and not lose all your settings. Every time I unplug my plasma, all my tuner settings and video setup are lost.

I might be tempted to unplug if I didn't have to go through the annoying setup every time.

Blu-ray releases on July 29th, 2008 {Engadget HD}

Jul 28th 2008 1:21PM Let me guess which title Ben got already. I'm thinking he's got a man crush on Jack Ryan.

Jul 18th 2008 10:49AM Somehow missed the "where to buy dvd/blu-ray" poll, but I have to chime in.

The cheapest, best selection of dvd's I have ever found goes to the local pawn shop. Hundreds of new release titles for $4, $2 for catalog. Hopefully soon more blu-rays will start showing up.

If you can stomach being seen going into a pawn shop, you'll save a ton. Also, brand new video game titles were $10.
