Ceton is set to take over the CableCARD PC tuner market {Engadget HD}
Sep 11th 2009 11:00PM All this excitement about CableCard on the eve of the tru2way release.
What am I missing?
AT&T also has a grudge against Cablevision {Engadget HD}
Aug 16th 2009 8:43AM This complaint coming from one of many ISPs tinkering with bandwidth caps. Poor baby!, Kind of sucks being at the thick end of the stick, eh.
Suggestion, find some quack to confirm HD's therapuetic value thereby making HD an inaleinable American right. Obama will then mandate HD for all and even fund the capital needed for expansion.

Apr 20th 2009 7:58AM Why would Bernie and Max even care about HD? Please!
Right now the blur of SD programming on an HD screen gives the illusion of speed. HD clarity will only substantiate just how boring the biweekly procession of fast cars that is F1 has become.
These two walking corpses are simply too busy changing the rules each week to contemplate improving their technology.
NPD Group says discs don't have to fear downloads... yet {Engadget HD}
Feb 6th 2009 8:02AM I was formerly in the camp of downloaders ultimately prevailing over media hounds. You just can't argue with not having to return a movie, whether dropping it off at the Post Office or the local BB. But with ISPs going the way of bandwidth caps I'm rethinking the whole concept of cloud computing.
As for BDlive, its as slow as watching grass grow. The concept is great but it fails miserably in its execution. Reminiscent of the 8088 and the F9 coffee break. Not worth the trouble, unless you have tons of time on your hands.
Is MOJO HD on the verge of shutting down? {Engadget HD}
Sep 19th 2008 7:54AM I'm in the camp of INHD/INHD2.
I miss the IMAX movies, and especially the short story films and the incredible HD destination films. Kind of like a sandpaper GalleryHD or Equator HD but with more pizazz.
Ever since they went MOJO I would constantly check out the content but nothing really grabbed, so got to say sorry to see you go but you won't really be missed.
How much does it cost to just leave your HDTV plugged in? {Engadget HD}
Jul 29th 2008 8:21PM I'm with DenverBob. My samsung lcd now three years old draws exactly the same amount of power as the test plasma while off!. Which really sucked as I discovered this only after purchasing.
I love the picture but it constantly sits in my mind that all that power is simply wasted while not watching. And on Long Island with rates over 20 cent/kw it adds up which factored significantly in my choice of plasma over lcd.
When comes time to replace this box I will be considering standby draw as part of the purchase decision.
Cablevision / Optimum coaxing CableCARD users back to HD STB {Engadget HD}
Mar 19th 2008 9:49PM I missed that announcement on the dongle. Thanks for the tip and count me in on hassling Opium, er Optimum for delivery!
Official: HD DVD dead and buried, format war is over {Engadget HD}
Feb 19th 2008 8:18AM For all those HD DVD fans don't fret, Sony's win is all for naught, and for those BD fans your victory is hollow, you've both been fighting the wrong battle. The real enemy is high speed bandwidth.
Physical media is irrelevant! I'm vacationing in the mountains of Maine and don't have a disc of any kind and with the usual reality BS and dirt bag TV on the tube I simply fired up my PC and media streamer, dialed up Hulu and caught up on Las Vegas episodes and introduced my kids to Barbara Eden and the I Dream of Jeannie shows!
Sony officials congratulations on your incredibly expensive win, but now run to the bank! Your won't matter for very long!

Feb 7th 2008 8:30AM Keywords "forcing renters to have the film shipped to their door "
Again the studios are leaving tons of money on the table. As we head into spring the days are getting longer and I've got youth sports practices and games to attend times 2 leaving precious little time for movie watching. My movie watching season runs Nov-Mar after that its outside time. I have no interest in owning movies, only viewing them so any kind of a transaction structured around "purchase" is off the table for me.
Not a fan of having to physically return movies, Blockbuster is a last ditch option so I find myself turning more and more to IPTV, as in Hulu to fill the void artificially created by the studios.
The day these imbecile studios get the formula right with releasing a movie the same day in all viewable options and also end this ludicrous HD/BR DVD war I'm gonna buy all their stocks!
