Poll: Are your Blu-ray Discs taking forever to ship from Netflix? {Engadget HD}
Dec 20th 2008 1:17PM I have seen "short wait" once.
I keep 20-30 movies listed in my queue at all times. I don't expect to get a release on the first week (even with the $1 fee). If you guys are so desperate for a movie the day it comes out. Then buy it.
For example Wall-E. I wanted that that one so I bought it, but the latest Mummy didn't get the greatest reviews so I got it through Netflix this weekend along with Get Smart.
I consider Netflix a "casual" service to help fill in the gaps in my movie watching, and I suspect 80% or more of it's subscribers are like that too. I don't think people expect Netflix to buy 500,000 of every new release and send it out. If you do then you should be paying 5x your monthly fee to get it.
DirecTV activates HD locals in four cities, only eight more coming this year? {Engadget HD}
Nov 23rd 2006 9:47AM Hey, Grand Rapids does exist and it is a pretty big market. I'll be picking up one of the new HD DVR's tomorrow for free from BB, but I won't be getting rid of my old HR10-250 for a little while.
DirecTV Titanium: $7,500 per year/$625 a month {Engadget HD}
Jun 19th 2006 8:37AM Actually this isn't too expensive. 10 HD DVR's? The full monthly package with PPV would be about $90-150/month or more with some PPV selections. Actually if I could get 10 families involved this would be a sweet setup!
DLPs and LCDs pricy little bulbs {Engadget HD}
May 5th 2006 1:24PM I have a Sony Wega 42" LCD. Two years 4-6 hours per day. No bulb replacement.
Sharp M20X projector >2000 hours. ~6 hours per week. Bulb still going Strong.
Home theater vs. movie theater {Engadget HD}
Apr 12th 2006 10:38AM In response to 13.
6.50? Not even close. I have a wife and child. That is $19.50. Popcorn, candy, pop, dinner before. Try $60-$75 add some exended family who always stops by our house, now you are about $150-$175
Bucket of chicken, 2 liter of pop, New DVD. $30. $15 if I rent it. That is a one day $140-$160 difference.
So take my 10 grand and divide it by $140
That is 71. I'm over 300 so I'm making money each time I don't go out, and I don't feel ripped off if the movie was a flop or the movie was faded or I had to use the mens room at a cruicial juncture.
Just not worth it.
