May 29th 2008 12:06AM Its not graphics or animation that is the problem with Madden. Its the fact that the AI and physics have actually regressed each year. I think the electric table football plays more realistically than any current gen iteration of madden. Some of my biggest complaints: 1) Line play. The trenches are about as fake as can be. There is almost no difference between a stud DT or a flake. There are Pro Bowl DLs who do stuff besides rush the passer. 2) Secondary AI. Choosing between man or zone is like choosing whether one likes tap or bottled water. Its all the pretty much the same. 3) Passing. Come on EA. Fess up to the fact that this is the same passing engine as found on the Genesis. There is only the bullet or pop fly approach to passing (the former resulting in LBs swatting down bombs and the latter resulting in no receiver ever being open). 99% of all passes result in the DB all over the receiver with a stat check to decide who catches the ball. Hitting passes in stride is tougher than scoring with a supermodel. Any real football fan would rather have realistic gameplay over detailed field turf.

Mar 17th 2008 10:10PM You get one of these when D* sticks an HR-21 onto you, even though the CSR promised an HR-20. From what I can gather, there aren't many HR-20s left. Considering that NBC is my area is being held hostage by LIN, I'll have to buy one of these guys. The only good news is that I didn't pay up-front for my HR-21.

Jan 23rd 2008 12:39PM I love my Universal MX-500. I think its been replaced by the RF-30 but its honestly one of the best deals ever. While it doesn't look as fancy as the Logitech products, it's got a better button layout for DVR/TiVos, a ton of hard (aka real) buttons, and an incredible range. Most importantly, my wife figured out how to use it on day 1. I think Universal's remotes are the most under-marketed product out there.

Oct 29th 2007 12:48PM Its hard to figure out shareholder value when you're driving fast cars across China. If this guy is too irresponsible to drive a car in the US (see end of http://www.redherring.com/Home/16184), how can he be expected to fairly value an offer that's giving a huge premium over BEA's fair stock price (considering that its been inflated for a good while now on takeover rumors)?

Aug 31st 2007 11:22PM The content providers are silly to think Apple really cares. As has been stated numerous times, Apple hardly profits on iTunes sales. Their profit comes from the hardware... and Apple doesn't truly care how you get your content. NBC is silly to think withdrawing their content is anything close to a pain point for Apple.
