Sony plans "medium to large" OLED panels in FY2009 -- Samsung trembles {Engadget HD}
May 22nd 2008 7:39AM Awesome news. Hehe, Sony in competition with Samsung for OLED, yet at the same time they closely cooperate; they have a joint venture with Samsung for LCD's, and another one with Sharp :)
Neil Young's entire music archive to be released on Blu-ray {Engadget HD}
May 7th 2008 3:40AM 10 discs???
Seriously, with every new technology that comes out we would be hoping that they can fit all on one disc. And again tonnes of double discs for films are coming out, 10 discs for this.
Surely he has a large catalogue, but it would be nice if there was a format that could fit a few TB's on one disc and eliminate the need for more and more discs.
Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending February 3rd, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Feb 8th 2008 1:47PM Ah well, but even so, aside from those BOGO deals, the US is not the only decisive factor in the war. The outcome has already been pretty much decided in Europe and Japan too. And also, I think a lot of DVD/HD-DVD player buyers are following the logic I mentioned in my previous post above.
This guys know what its about:

Nielsen VideoScan High-Def market share for week ending February 3rd, 2008 {Engadget HD}
Feb 8th 2008 1:05PM Not surprising, this was to be expected with all the HD-DVD hardware and media liquidation, prices for the Xbox HD addon below $120, all those BOGO sales for HD-DVD (this time on Amazon, B&N, etc.), the HD-DVD Superbowl advertisement... But still, its one of the final gasps of air for HD-DVD. And its quite understandable, HD-DVD players at that price are equally as expensive as ordinary DVD players, and those thinking of buying a DVD player might as well by a HD-DVD player with all the extra movies they get with it, I would too, I'd just see a HD-DVD player as a nice DVD player.
I find a lot of HD related news sites still focus too much on what happens in the US when in Europe Blu-Ray player and media market share is like 90% all over, similarly in Japan.
Sony adds WWAN to select SZ6 / TZ20 VAIO laptops {Engadget}
Aug 30th 2007 11:52AM Also, I was wondering whether existing SZ4 or SZ5 laptops, or an SZ6 bought in the States without an integrated WWAN module, have the option of upgrading to a WWAN module once it comes out (3G / UMTS HSPDA).
I ordered an SZ680CTO from the States without the integrated broadband but would like to add integrated 3G should this be possible here in Europe.

Aug 30th 2007 5:16AM Anybody know whether the US SZ laptops, SZ680 and such with integrated wwan broadband also work on the European networks( 3G - UMTS / HSDPA) or do they ONLY work on America's Sprint Broad EVDO network?
