Hands-on with the Garmin nuvifone {Engadget}

Jan 30th 2008 9:26PM OK, I'll admit that after seeing some more high-res images, I rushed to judgment on the ugly-factor, though it's still in need of some massaging. My reaction may have been partly based on some fuzzy/dark low-res pictures here! ;)

Hands-on with the Garmin nuvifone {Engadget}

Jan 30th 2008 9:21PM Oh MY GOD is that ugly!

Don't get me wrong...I love Garmin, have two PNDs from them, but wow...

If only they could polish it up just a bit and make it look less squarely clunky, they would have a winner.

Just a bit too close to an old Palm PDA.

Keep at it Nuvi, you'll get there...

Sony intros three new photo frames, adds Bluetooth and HDMI {Engadget}

Jan 30th 2008 7:50PM What, no Wireless HDMI yet? P'shah.

I don't mind having the company name on my components...but on a picture frame? Sony should have their name removable from the frame (as should all other manufacturers). I know they need to brand it, but that's a bit much for a photo frame.

I'm surprised they didn't include a headphone jack...seems like they are trying to overload it with everything else.

Check for HD before RSVP-ing that Superbowl party {Engadget HD}

Jan 30th 2008 7:23PM The etiquette question is tricky... I've always been somewhat of a geek, especially with hooking up components. (I go into a "Beautiful Mind" trance when I stare at the back of some device, imagining in 3D all of the possible configurations, connections, etc. Kinda scary, but anyway...

What I do know is setting things up (computers, A/V systems, etc.)

I've been at many houses that had components set up in the most in-optimal way (is that a word?) I have such a reaction to seeing things hooked up wrong because I KNOW that they are missing out. I have some weird compulsion to re-hook everything up, but of course, this has to be done tactfully. Often, I'll gently inquire about their set-up and if the opportunity arises, offer some minor suggestion that their cable/sattelite or big box folks set-up wrong and I can tweak it for them.

I've seen too many HD TVs hooked up with RCA video (not component, just the vid), or RF cables coming in from the cable box to the TV instead of HDMI or anything else! It drives me mad.

Too many people are not aware what they are watching and think that it's HD when it's not and they aren't educated by the sellers of the products on how to do it right. I've used that line with people too, letting them know that it's common for things not to be hooked up right and for information not to be passed onto them, in order to make them feel less foolish or stupid, since it's not about intelligence, but some people are a bit more tech-prone than others.

Shock the Monkey! {TMZ}

Jan 30th 2008 2:10PM One of the BEST...MUSICIANS....EVER....

Peter Gabriel has been ahead of his time for decades, coming up with mesmerizing music and groundbreaking videos.

I'm one of those fans who waits very patiently, sometimes almost 10 years, between his albums, but treasure each one (and they are all different).

He's not for everyone's taste, but should be heralded as a true visionary for his contributions to music from the early Genesis days to today.
