Nov 14th 2007 4:03AM It looks like you would be paying for the software mostly. The BookSnap scanning software and BookDrive Editor that comes with this is much more advanced than the simple little $50 Snapter program they sell.
The stand really does look pretty neat since it would save you the time of engineering all the angles to eliminate the glare and keep the margins in the same place as you scan through the book.
I think only Canon cameras are supported because they're the only ones that can be controlled remotely from PC software when plugged in.
Cut the price in half and I'd totally buy it just for the amount of time it would save me.

Aug 24th 2007 11:02PM For all the people complaining about the page refresh speed, the new "Vizplex" e-ink displays are in production and will be out soon. Other ereaders like the bookeen will be using it. I'm sure Sony will upgrade to the new screens soon.
Personally, I'd like a slightly larger screen more like the iliad reader.
I'd like built-in LED lights along the side or a flip up light of some kind so I don't need a separate attachment to read comfortably in the dark.
Hook up with college text book publishers and get these into the hands of students. (will never happen, but would be nice)
Put a small keyboard on it so we can use it as a dictionary or map reader and search for things.
Make PDFs painless.
Add a way to download RSS feeds, websites, news papers. I'd love to be able to dock the thing at night and wake up in the morning and have several newspapers to choose from. I'd bet that it would take off more as a newspaper reader than a book reader if they could make it work painlessly.
