Vizio, SRS partner up to wow you {Engadget HD}

Jun 13th 2008 3:15PM I like your screen name -- you definitely backed it up with your points. The "mono" bit was really about stereo separation across small distances. We would have wrapped all the SRS announcements together, but the Vizio one came separately (and before) the Sharp and Olevia release.

Seriously, thanks for chiming in -- I think we both share a desire to get people better audio, within their budget. Like I said at the end of the post, I don't want folks to be "missing out" on the better experience provided by improved sound. A psychoacoustic solution like SRS is a step up, but it still can't beat discrete channels, IMHO.

Marantz to deliver new AV8003 processor and MM8003 amplifier next month, at least to Canada {Engadget HD}

May 29th 2008 7:31PM Joe - exactly what I thought when I checked to see if the prices in the linked article could be explained by exchange rate (1USD = 0.99CAD). Also, note that in the linked article, the price for the AV8003 is higher ($3150) and the MM8003 lower ($1850) than the prices shown on Marantz's US website. What's your take -- do you think these will ship to the US market with the $3150 / $1850?

It'd be funny if the $3150/$1850 prices are for the Canadian market and the Us gets $2600/$2400 -- will we see cross shipping of the two units by deal-savvy buyers?

Pioneer to launch new West Coast stores in 2009 {Engadget HD}

May 19th 2008 2:34PM Rolf -- thanks for making that clear. I didn't mean to imply that Panasonic branded displays would be at the Pioneer store, which is why I put the link on "Panasonic" to a story indicating exactly that. By the time these stores go live, the partnership should be getting underway (if not already underway), and believe me, we're all anxious to see that generation of Kuro, too! Look around and you'll see we get beat up for being Kuro fanboys around here (in our defense, we get to see things like the CES Project Kuro demo that most readers don't).

DTS exits cinema biz, focusing on consumer market {Engadget HD}

May 15th 2008 7:01PM I'd venture to guess that Beaufort California, Inc. will continue to deploy the technology to cinema use. Unfortunately, I didn't get details on whether they are free to use the DTS name as well, but I know it has a lot of value to cinema-goers. Honestly, I'd be surprised if the DTS badge disappeared from movies using the tech -- there's real value in that name recognition.
