Sony debuts $1,500 SACD player with HDMI output {Engadget}

Aug 27th 2008 4:36PM >>A bigger issue was of course the complete lack of any decent albums. Seriously, how many times am I going to buy the same old Pink Floyd or Steely Dan CDs?

Not to mention THE WHITE ALBUM; I already have that one in 9 formats (and there are more to come...?)

CES 2008 product names: Best of the worst {Engadget}

Jan 11th 2008 5:07PM McIntosh????

Bet you guys had NO IDEA that, Apple had to license the name Macintosh from these very guys from McIntosh, now a division of D&M Holdings (Denon and Marantz).

At least you didn't run around the floor of the show with TV-be-Gone remote zappers, but this is DAMN close.

Please keep the keyboard away from children at all times...

Hyatt's Plug Panel opens new world of connectivity to 42-inch HDTV {Engadget HD}

Dec 19th 2007 6:28PM There's nothing more irritating than a hotel that DISABLES the external inputs on their TV's. Key offenders are the otherwise friendly Marriott Courtyard and Residence Inn brands. Huge hi-fives to Hyatt. With (accessable) component and video in their Park Hyatt brands, and often in the Grand Hyatt flavours.

Seems that the motivation to minimize A/V options is pure greed: selling the truly crappy movies that are doomed to run in hotel rooms.

Hyatt has my spend.

Who will be the dominant HD provider? {Engadget HD}

Jun 26th 2007 4:55PM Direct was slated to become the HD king until a problem with a SeaLaunch satellite messed up their schedule. Once Direct's transponder-rich new bird is up and certified; we can expect Direct to really have something to sell. And I'm looking forward to the competition between Dish, Direct, and the shameless asswipes over at Comcast to truly heat up. Dish will very quickly move into last place among these three. Fiber to the home (which I've only seen Verizon pushing on the East Coast) remains a worthy holy grail.

Nikon D3 DSLR rumors running rampant {Engadget}

Jun 9th 2007 5:01PM I'm hearing that Nikon's much heralded long-term reliability has suffered in many of their new digital offerings.

Any hard data or indications of potential truth to the regular comments I'm hearing from multiple sources. I've had Nikon system products (Bloody good cameras) for more than 30 years and have been holding back on trading my F's and F2's for a digital body...

Samsung SDI announces latest "world's thinnest" LCD {Engadget}

Feb 27th 2007 1:02AM All fine information except one fact:

Even though both companies seem to share the same first name (Samsung), I've observed that:
Samsung Semi is quite competent
Samsung SDI is often quite the opposite

Strange but true...

Analysts predict 4GB and 8GB iPod nanos with video {Engadget}

May 1st 2006 5:46PM Expect the flash makers to provide 2x the amount of flash capacity for the same cost every year for the next few years. (This has a fairly chilling effect on the guys making the 6 to 8 GB 1-inch HD's). So an 8 GB Nano makes total sense. Apple can exercise an option to match the current 4 GB Nano price once the initial early adopter geeks (who historically will pay anything) buy theirs at premium prices.
