Review: 2009 Nissan Maxima, return of the four-door sports car? {Autoblog}
Apr 22nd 2009 10:04AM why would anyone buy this over the altima? CVT? who cares, Bigger engine w/heavier body.. who cares??
and lastly, talk about making the car look even more boring.. bleh. And I live in the area where the Maxima is/was in the most demand.
Survey shows increasing preference for MP3 by youngsters, audiophiles weep {Engadget HD}
Mar 9th 2009 11:02AM please, how good was his equipment? If he was doing this over your typical trash boombox type playback machine heck i'd probably like the MP3's too.
we're rushing to judge here without really knowing what all the variables were. how about if he conducted the same tests with a bunch of musicians, or just even people who can play a musical instrument?
whats funny is that what really needs to be done and we all know it, is to take a piece of music the person is intimately familiar with and show them the difference on the various playback equipment and probably also on the different formats.
until i read the facts this is just anecdotal evidence and isn't something i give any credence to at all.

Hero or Villain? Kiwi bandit filling "boy racer" exhausts with expanding foam {Autoblog}
Feb 4th 2009 7:02AM how about we go crazy glue all the windows and doorlocks of the perpetrator's house. (and the mailbox) Better yet, use really thick epoxy on all of it so that it damages the wood frames when they try to break them open. I wonder if the perpetrator would think he/she is so smart then.
For someone with a highly tuned engine with lots of mods, that should equal out for the damage.
Frankly this is BS, they may not like it, but I kinda hope someone like this gets caught like the guy who was throwing bricks through windows in my college parking lot got caught. Someone I know caught him and experienced roid rage on the guy, the brick thrower ended up in the emergency room with multiple fractures and some other serious injuries.
This is like the jerk who has to park next to someone who temporarily takes up 2 spaces in a nearly empty parking lot to go enjoy an ice cream cone while on a Sunday drive. (which is different than someone taking up 2 spots in a nearly full lot at the height of a shopping day)
People really have no respect for nice vehicles or other peoples property.
Marantz's pricey BD8002 Blu-ray player on sale in UK {Engadget HD}
Jan 30th 2009 3:52AM Sadly, this is a profile 1.1 player and for that amount of money no matter how great the sound/image is if its not profile 2.0 I'm not buying it.
VIDEO: Adam Corolla mans the pumps on The Man Show {Autoblog}
Jan 28th 2009 12:53AM Adam Corolla doesn't have the universal appeal that has made Top Gear so famous. His humor doesn't appeal to everyone, many people have found his antics to be childish and immature.
While at times he can be funny, for myself and a number of people I know here on the east coast, we don't enjoy him and don't find him entertaining. On the other hand, Top Gear has somehow managed something rather special and entertaining that crosses just about every demographic. I just don't see another group pulling off what Jeremy Clarkson and the rest have managed to do.
A good example of what I would expect from Top Gear USA would be exactly what happened with Top Gear australia, mildly funny, decently entertaining but lacking the that extra spark to make it a great show.
Me, I'd be happiest if we could just get Top Gear broadcast on NBC, FOX, CBS, ABC and stop trying to recreate a bad american version of a great show.
Sony bites the bullet, releases Made for iPod music systems {Engadget}
Jan 7th 2009 9:04PM bleh, anyone ever hear one of these things? I got the displeasure a few days ago, the speakers sound like they are playing in mud. I'm not sure I've ever heard anything that was so muddied and just plain awful. It wasn't just one system, there were 2 of them different models and they both sounded atrocious.
They look nice I'll give them that, they are attractive in that flashy way, but I bet even someone deaf from artillery can hear how bad these things sound.
Ask Engadget HD: Best stereo receiver / amplifier? {Engadget HD}
Dec 25th 2008 6:07AM The best?? You will get a lot of advice about what is the best. I can tell you right now for 2.1 sound you don't want anything you can find in a big box retailer. You need to go to a boutique type shop.
The best is usually regarded as separate units, where you have a pre-amp processor AV unit and a separate power amplifier. A good example of this is the Marantz AV8003 with the MM8003. Combined price is about $5k. however this is a 7.1 system and it sounds like you are looking for a 2.1 system.
A good boutique store will let you bring in your speakers to listen to their various amps. At the very least they will let you listen to any unit in their store before you buy it. Keep in mind you are talking about purchasing something more than likely over $2000. It's critical that you listen to what you purchase as what sounds best ultimately is determined by your ear and not that of anyone else.
Some brands to look at
us.marantz.com/
bryston.com/
www.classeaudio.com/
www.rogueaudio.com/ (tube amps, many people feel tubes are the only way to reproduce sound)
www.rotel.com/
nadelectronics.com/index
www.balanced.com/
www.naim-audio.com/
www.anthemav.com/
www.mcintoshlabs.com/
www.outlawaudio.com/ (internet only not sure if you'll be able to demo one of these)
OK so there is a list of what most high end audio people would call the best. I'm sure I've left out a huge number of companies.
Something to remember here, what are you going to be playing music from? an Ipod, a cheap CD player? etc etc. The manufacturers and equipment I've listed there are in general so good that if you use a poor sound source it will become immediately apparent.
And the last question is how much do you want to spend? Some of the manufacturers here easily offer solutions that can cost over $10k. Again the best is what to your ear sounds the best.
Look at the manufacturers websites and look for a dealer near you, you'll be much happier you did. You will find true audio enthusiasts at these dealers and I'm sure you'll find a system that will both make you happy and fit your budget.
One last thing, Major brands like Onkyo, Yamaha, Pioneer, Denon, don't bother with anything less than their reference systems, even then you will probably not get as clear and clean of sound as you would from the other manufacturers I've listed above.
Star Wars: The Old Republic built from HeroEngine {Joystiq}
Dec 10th 2008 6:56PM So basically this is an untested engine. AND it looks like micro-transactions for a game?
Neither of which inspire me with confidence.
Further I've yet to find a micro-transaction game that I like. I prefer subscriptions to getting walloped for every crap thing in a game, most of which tend to be necessary to play the game at a decent level.
WE, that is americans are not Koreans and the american market from what I've seen with the exception of the under 15 crowd has not been enamored of micro-transaction games.
and if this game is aimed at the under 15 crowd we might as well give up hope now for a good game.
Sony's Green Glove recycling service hauls away your old TV when buying a BRAVIA {Engadget HD}
Nov 19th 2008 12:17AM I can't see this being too common in use. Usually if your like me, you either give it away to friends/relatives or sell it used. So somehow I just don't see the buyers of things like this having much demand for this service.
