Ready or not, the latest 3D technology is coming home {Engadget HD}
Oct 26th 2009 4:07PM Why there is so many people unwilling to accept a new video technology on EngadgetHD I'll never know.
Have any of you guys even seen a demo of this new style of 3D? Or are you just blindly hating on it because it's different?
@Vidikron
The goal right now isn't to get all day-to-day viewing in 3D, the same way every single thing wasn't in HD in the beginning. Of course you don't need to watch the local news in 3D, but why wouldn't you want special events such as the Super Bowl or the newest action flick in 3D in your home if possible? That's the same thing as people "wearing glasses at an occasional movie", it's to supplement the experience.
And just because they're starting to get the ball rolling on 3D footage doesn't mean that you need to go buy a 3D capable display tomorrow. Again, this is the same as when HD was gaining ground and starting to become affordable for mainstream. 3D has been in DLP sets for a couple years now, and it will be a new feature on the high end flat panels. Just like 120+hz on LCD's, give it a year or two and it will be a feature that trickles down to all the models. So in a few years, when you're ready to get a new TV it won't really be a feature that you need to search for, it will just be supported if you want to use it.
@ PJ
Sony and Panasonic have already said that their new 3D sets will be fully backwards compatible with current 3D shutter technology. It says that in the linked Engadget article. And if anybody was to make their own "version" of 3D technology it would be Sony, if they're on the bandwagon I don't see anybody else steering to far off.

"I have two teenaged girls, and they don't want to go on dates looking like they're going to do some spot welding,"
People really refuse to go to 3D movies because they'd have to wear non-designer styled glasses in the dark?

Creative Zii EGG orders being processed, will ship by the end of the month {Engadget}
Aug 25th 2009 11:17AM Although I passed on Creative for my most recent sound card upgrade (Asus Xonar Essence STX), that wasn't because of Creative's quality, that's because the STX had the built in headphone amp that I wanted.
And I still use my Zen Vision: M everyday without a single complaint.
I do want to upgrade this fall though, and I'm still torn between lusting over the Zune HD and the Zii. I'm pretty sure what I'm getting with the Zune, but I think I'm gonna need to see some reviews before all the Zii's capabilities are brought out.

Sprint's developer site reveals Touch Pro2's innermost secrets {Engadget Mobile}
Aug 7th 2009 11:10AM Trust us wizzy. You are in the minority that you think nobody wants 3.5mm audio jacks on their phones. First off most avg consumers don't even know bluetooth audio is possible. Once they found out they would definitely think it's cool, but after dealing with having to remember to charge their earbuds all the time, the lower quality sound they're getting compared to the nice pair of earbuds they probably already have for their MP3 player, and other short comings with blue tooth audio, they'll probably be happy to know that their shiny new TP2 has a good ol' 3.5mm jack to fall back on.

Shure introduces three new sets of cans for pros and poseurs {Engadget}
Jul 21st 2009 1:55PM @ Tom Clague
Just to point out, my DT770's are my first step into the world of mid to high level headphones. I was able to pick up a pair of the 250 ohm version for $140 brand new so I jumped on them. I know for a fact they aren't the best sounding cans available, but they are definitely the best sounding ones I've had the pleasure to use. I was upgrading from a pair of Bose Triports.
The only bad thing about them is they've started me on an expensive path. Now I'm wanting to try out higher end headphones and that is not going to end well for my wallet...
