HTC's HD2 has landed at Engadget (hands-on) {Engadget}
Nov 4th 2009 4:20PM Guys, no offense, but this photo gallery is awful. You have basically the same shot 5-10 times. You could have reduced this down to a total of 4 or 5 photos and you would have shown just as much.
That said, the phone sure looks sexy. The screen is gigantic.
AT&T sues Verizon over 'there's a map for that' ads {Engadget}
Nov 3rd 2009 5:09PM The ads clearly say, in large type, "3G coverage". If people equate "3G" with "coverage or no coverage" then they are stupid :)
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 announced, we go hands-on {Engadget}
Nov 3rd 2009 2:31PM Jedidove, that's a fair enough response. Yeah, lots of new phones are coming out in the next couple of months, and if you have the patience, definitely wait and see what the best one is - not bad a strategy :)
However, I am sick of waiting for a good Android phone. A couple of people I know have the G1 and I have the Hero and so have a lot of experience with Android. I love it, but one thing is clear - the current phones suck because they're slow. Droid may be trumped in a month or two but I still think it will be perfectly acceptable for at least a year, so I can't wait to get it. Plus, it's the only device with Android 2.0 which looks awesome - that's a huge plus too. None of the other phones that are coming out any time soon (that are announced anyways) have Android 2.0, at least that I know of. The x10 is still 3-6 months away and even it is not going to come with Android 2.0! That's pretty lame, IMHO.
Anyways, like I said, if you have the patience, waiting to see what happens from now til Xmas is a good strategy. I just don't have the patience anymore though :)
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 announced, we go hands-on {Engadget}
Nov 3rd 2009 2:25AM Jedidove, you talk of pure nonsense. While the x10 may have a better processor than the droid, the droid still has a kick ass processor, amongst the best available today in any mobile phone in the US.
No, what's pathetic is all these other Android phones using the processor of yesteryear, the ARM11. Now that is a pile of crap but is still a very common processor in a lot of phones these days. As far as I know, every Android phone released so far has this processor, and it makes Android look bad because it's slow as hell.
The droid is the first Android phone to have a GOOD processor, and that's a huge deal. Sure, better phones will come along, but the droid has a lot going for it and it's going to be a huge success. The x10 sounds intriguing but it's at least 3-6 months away. I'm not willing to wait that long, and personally I'm not a huge fan of the interface Sony has built. It looks unique and interesting in a lot of ways, but I also really like the plain interfaace of vanilla Android. Not only that, but having this insane interface on top of Android will surely be a big drag on battery life. I'll take vanilla any day.
If you don't like the droid, don't get it - that's fine. It's not for everyone. However, I am very excited for it, and have mine reserved for November 6!
New Games This Month: November 2009 {Joystiq}
Nov 2nd 2009 3:25PM Dying with anticipation for MW2... that's the only game I'm getting this month though. I just don't have time to play like I used to. There are many more games that I want though, of course...
PlayStation Home 'not a priority right now' for Sony, most people seem to feel the same way (update: misquote) {Engadget}
Nov 2nd 2009 1:43PM My guess is they've given up on it because it's pretty lame. Before the beta came out I was pretty excited for it, I thought it looked interesting. But once it became available and I actually tried it out, I couldn't believe how poorly it was executed. I mean, it's really really bad. There is no use for it at all. It's a huge embarrassment, really.
How would you change Sony's PlayStation 3 Slim? {Engadget}
Oct 31st 2009 5:09AM I think the only thing they messed up on is not adding back in backwards compatibility. Especially since a lot of the early PS3's used software instead of hardware emulation - if it's just software, and the software is already written, it costs literally nothing to keep this feature.
Other than that, no complaints. Someone mentioned the BD drive could be faster - I agree that would be nice but as is I can't really complain about that, I've had no problems with PS3 load times. I don't have the new PS3 (I have the original 60gb PS3 with hardware emulation) but I definitely would sell my existing one and buy this one brand new, if it had the backwards compatibility.
Ask Engadget: Which Android phone should I get? {Engadget}
Oct 30th 2009 12:48AM You iPhone fanboys are the worst, you know that? If you like your iPhone, FINE - keep it. What do I care? You as well should not care if other people are interested in something other than the iPhone. I had the original iPhone for 2 years and a month. It's a good phone, ok? But it's also really boring. Don't talk to about 85,000 apps - Whoopee. I don't care about that. I'm talking about desktop widgets, real multitasking, and open development (e.g. apps can be distributed outside of the official marketplace). You don't get any of that on the iPhone, and for that reason, I'm bored as hell with it. So shut up already ok?
Ask Engadget: Which Android phone should I get? {Engadget}
Oct 30th 2009 12:23AM Droid, hands down. All Android phones so far have been vastly underpowered and hence feel quite slow. Android is very cool but the hardware hasn't been. I have the Hero and it's so-so.
While the droid isn't out yet and no reviews available, all the "hands on" I've ready have been very positive, and it's the first Android phone I've seen that has "awesome" specs. Its speed will be on par with the iPhone 3GS, which is a very fast phone. Plus it has a high res screen (~800x400, whereas most phones as 480x320), along with an OLED screen for awesome colors and low power usage. Plus it's the only Android phone that's going to have Android 2.0 for many months, and it looks like an awesome update.
Workaround for HTC Hero battery life issues discovered {Engadget}
Oct 29th 2009 8:53PM Who cares if it's old - it's still relevant. Lots of people don't know about this problem and are wondering why their Hero battery life sucks. I think a major tech blog like Engadget should post about it so more people know about it. :P
