Suddenlink, LIN TV reach retrans deal, restore KXAN & KBIM {Engadget HD}

Mar 26th 2008 9:58AM KBIM must be another Austin channel. LIN does own CBS KRQE in Albuquerque though. Which does not have aggreements for their HD channel for CBS on Directv or Comcast cable. They do have deals with Dish Network, and Cable One here.

More news from 2012: 100 million US households to pay for HD programming {Engadget HD}

Mar 18th 2008 12:55PM What's worse is it's going to take that 100, million three years after the transition to digital tv in 2009 that they will pay for HD. When Stations stop broadcasting analog channels, chances are all the networks will stop providing analog to multichannel providers, leaving them to have to pass the hd channel on in one form or another.

VUDU teams up with home automotion / control partners {Engadget HD}

Mar 14th 2008 10:55PM It's a Shame they didn't decide to use Z-wave for automation. A great inexpensive standard that can be easily retro-fitted with plug in modules and wall switches like X-10 but all RF based and very reliable.

Bring it: CBS to offer March Madness HD VOD {Engadget HD}

Feb 28th 2008 9:59AM Except in Albuquerque, where CBS and Comcast aren't talking in HD to each other.

Comcast adds trio of HD options in Albuquerque, New Mexico {Engadget HD}

Feb 26th 2008 6:32PM Yeah Thanks for the new channels and all. But we're still waiting on CBS-HD you cheapskates. It's Comc*a*-tastic the work you're doing!

Control your entire house with your iPhone or iPod Touch {Engadget HD}

Dec 20th 2007 5:55PM Check out http://www.Homeseer.com for the great software thats not too expensive. Looking for a non computer based option check out the Zwave enabled Home Remote line from Hawking. Does the same thing with little effort.

By the end of 2009, MPEG-4 will take over cable too {Engadget HD}

Dec 20th 2007 2:53PM 1080p broadcasting, according to studies contributes 75% of of the remaining 10% of greenhouses gases not produced by Al Gore crying about my lightbulbs. Hee hee.

Seriously, 1080p broadcasts are not likely to happen. Networks can't even get it right with 720p and and 1080i without problems. Most don't even use their full bandwidth now. My concern with this notion of going all mpeg4 will kill the QAM support for local channels which are protected by FCC rules. But then that won't stop Comcast from ignoring more FCC regulations.

Evergreen unveils DN-MRC200T external TV tuner / media recorder {Engadget}

Dec 20th 2007 12:13PM And illegal too!

If it has an analog tuner, it MUST have a digital one to be imported or manufactured in the US. So don't look for this to come to the states as is. Olevia got hit with a big FCC fine for trying to ship new analogs to the us. Also why Sony and others are now selling VCR/DVD combos without any tuner at all.

USA HD / Sci-Fi HD launching on Dish Network? {Engadget HD}

Dec 6th 2007 12:37PM Im psyched with this news. I stopped watching Sci Fi when Universal HD picked up Firefly Battlestar and Stargate Atlantis. Having the premeire of Flash Gordon on UHD but not the series is what killed scifi once and for all for me. Although I did Watch Razor. Scifi-HD is the one channel on Directv that I am jealous for. This solves that. Mark one more up for Dish if this is true.

Actually I love the Dish DVR also. Thursday nights I record and watch My name is Earl, Survivor and Smallville. Three shows all at same time which the Dish DVR allows. NBC and CBS via satellite channels and CW via the OTA tuner. GO DISH!
