Open Front Row to third party developers {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Mar 25th 2006 3:01AM A GOOD iDEA?
When Front Row first came out, one of the first things that me and others were talking about, were features we wanted added. In fact, there are probably tons of features that we weren't mentioning, that would also be great.
TOO MANY?
As far as Kevin's comment about this leading to too many that would just clutter up the space in Front Row, all he has to think about is Dashboard. Why would Apple allow developers to come up with any widgets, if their isn't enough room on our screens to fit them all? BECAUSE EVERYONE ISN'T GOING TO WANT THEM ALL! The user will have to deal with the space they have available, and what is most important to them to have open.
Which Ones & How?
There is no question as to how. Just keep it how Apple has it designed, but increase the number of our choices. Then, once the ball is rolling and the stage is set, I'm sure we'll start seeing tons of little add-ons to Front Row. Like a PDF/RSS viewer, VLC player, NetNews Wire, iChat, and others. Hey, who wouldn't love to check their email on a 60" to 120" screen? With a remote!
Getting It Done?
I also agree with LoneWolf's idea of starting a fund for the first person to this. Heck, look at the guy who got WinXP on the MacBookPro. If enough people want it, then it can be accomplished. Even if we have to hire someone to do it.

AACS is better than CSS for consumers {Engadget HD}
Mar 24th 2006 5:58AM Here's a question:
Sonce you guys were mentioning TV, do any of you know of a way to get HD content from a TV source now?
I have JVC's DVHS deck and a Dish 921, which I bought with the express purpose of wanting to record HD content. But, I have yet to be able to record any HD content from Dish receiver to my DVHS deck. Any suggestions?
If this isn't possible, does anyone know of any way to transfer that content from my Dish to something else?
It's been my quandry for a while. Just thought I'd ask.

Security update 2006-002 {The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)}
Mar 16th 2006 2:51PM Has anyone experienced these problems after installing this recent security update?
1.) My menu bar items disappear, but return if I click in the place where they were. It looks as if the text color changes into the same color as the background, and when I click on it, the text reappears as black.
2.) What about not being able to see your firwire hardrive? I have done the security update on my computer, but my friend hasn't. My drive doesn't show up on mine, but it does on theirs.
Any ideas???
