Apr 10th 2008 11:14AM The main problem here is the same as the main problem with Blockbuster in general: Franchise stores. They aren't governed by the corporation, so they make all their own decisions, and every franchise store I've ever been to sucked compared to the corporate stores. They dont keep the facilities OR selection up as much, they dont abide by the company policy of no late fees (REALLY frustrating the first time you mess up and end up owing $20) and for the most part, they dont stock blu-ray. I think it is rediculous for the company to herald policies that only guarantee to apply to about 30% of the stores I've ever been to (maybe that's just my area's bad luck).

Mar 17th 2008 11:11AM Funny thing is, I saw an ad for Atonement this morning that stated "coming to DVD this Tuesday" with no mention of the HD version, not even a glimpse of an HD case in the background as they've been doing lately. Seems that the obvious is true: people really want to wash their hands of the whole format.

Feb 27th 2008 2:01PM Well... it's not as big of a sign as it looks like in the first shot, and it is a valid point, HD did throw in the towel. There are tons of people out there that dont spend all their time like I do watching for new Engadget posts. I haven't caught the fact that Blu won on mainstream nightly news, and I'm sure there will still be a good chunk of people that will walk into a store and buy cheap HD players without talking to a sales person (I know I never do) not figure out until it's too late why it was such a 'bargin'. Some people (non-technologically-obsessed) need a big freakin sign in their face flat out telling them what is going on

Jan 29th 2008 11:12AM Who would call drastically cutting the prices of players, including increased numbers of disks with purchase, eliminating profit (and possibly taking loss after the free disks), making them cheaper than some regular DVD players, and still, after the most desperate moves you can make, only grasping at half the market share of your competitor a comeback???? This was HD-DVD's big answer, their counter, their kamikazi attack, and this is what they get? 34%?
