BBC still mulling Blu-ray exclusive decision {Engadget HD}

Jan 16th 2008 2:38PM Really. Well here's a different take on the same topic.

Warner's switch to Blu-ray exclusivity will not sway its distribution partner BBC Home Video from its dual-format stance.

That's word from from a company spokesperson, who late yesterday told TVShowsonDVD.com that the BBC will continue its format-agnostic strategy for the time being, and that they "will evaluate the marketplace before committing to one format."

The company cited the stellar sales of its 'Planet Earth' box set (whose HD DVD version has outsold the Blu-ray) as added reasoning behind the decision, as well as an upcoming line-up of multiple (but as yet unannounced) high-def titles it has planned for both formats in 2008.

Dec 16th 2007 4:05PM Unfortunately, this thing has not only audio issues, but video issues as well. This according to several owners over at AVS. Samsung's BD UP5000 not yet ready for prime-time Duo Player. Too bad. I was very much considering buying this.

LG's "Super Blu" BH200 HD DVD / Blu-ray combo player now available {Engadget HD}

Dec 10th 2007 2:37PM Beautiful player with excellent video, unfortunately a major shortcoming is it's audio out, which at this time is just able to do TrueHD to 2 speakers not 5.1. WTF! Hopefully, problem will be resolved with a firmware update.

Universal Studios VP sez HD DVD is 'more affordable' than Blu-ray {Engadget HD}

Jul 30th 2007 9:02PM I agree with what your saying Nfinity. Price is gonna win this. J6P, heck let alone me, are not in a hurry to purchase a $500.00 Blu-Ray standalone.

I've had HD-DVD player for some time now and with some current releases coming out of the ray camp, I quickly checked the prices of current players on Amazon and was turned off by the prices. While I can easily afford buying one, I'll simply hold off until the prices drop or simply buy the dual format that Samsung will soon be offering.

Target to only sell Blu-ray players in stores {Engadget HD}

Jul 26th 2007 5:35AM I agree with your saying...pretty hefty price for a budget store. Can't see many people walking into Target dropping five big ones.

I suspect Sony must be offering incentives to Target.
