Mar 21st 2008 10:19AM Any news about when/if FIOS plans on getting this? They really seem to be slacking on the HD content lately.
Display technology shootout: OLED vs. LCD vs. plasma {Engadget HD}
Jan 28th 2008 2:29PM I would have to disagree with your comment about LCD being "junk". The XBR 4/5(which I have) as well as the Samsung 71 and 81 series rival the best plasmas(Kuro included)
Sony offering free PlayStation 3 with HDTV purchase {Engadget HD}
Dec 29th 2007 8:16AM Seriously, some of you HD-DVD fanboys are in serious defense mode. This isn't even targeted to you, so why the comments? As if a potential buyer of a Sony TV and/or PS3 is going to read your comments and say I'm not going to buy it because the handful of HD-DVD fanboys on this site don't like it.
Just because many of you don't like Sony(for whatever reason) doesn't mean they don't make fine electronics which includes the PS3 and their TV's. And despite what some of you want to believe, the days of people saying the PS3 is too expensive are over for the most part.
Since the 399 40GB model and their top of the line PS3 now going for 499, they have been selling remarkably well.
Why some of you HD-DVD fanboys have to pollute a Sony TV and PS3 thread is beyond me.

Dec 28th 2007 11:15AM Uncharted is by far and away the best graphical game to grace a console and my GOTY. If you don't have an HDTV yet, you owe it to yourself to get one and play Uncharted.
Seriously, Uncharted is amazing! Uncharted truly shows what the PS3 is capable of and the PS3 is only a little more than a year old!

Dec 14th 2007 5:02PM Seriously, Blu-Ray outsold HD-DVD by MORE than 3:1 and looking at the numbers for the year, Blu-Ray is winning easily 65/35. I can't believe that HD-DVD people are still talking smack on this site saying that HD-DVD is going to win. Most people talk smack when they are winning, not the other way around.
Based on this year, I think their was 2 or 3 close weeks the ENTIRE year,the rest was a wash in Blu-Ray's favor.

You cosider the PS3 a "kids console"? Are you sure you are not getting mixed up with the wii?
I am 28 years old and own a PS3. I also have a some friends as well as co-workers that have a PS3 as well, and they are all over the age of 25, two of them over 30.
So not really sure why you think the PS3 is a "kids console".
Also, you are right, Blu-ray does rely heavily on the PS3. But if the PS3 didn't exist, I am sure Blu-Ray would take that into account and price their players accordingly. Fact is, the PS3 does exist and they don't need to lower the price this Christmas to $150-200 unlike HD-DVD because Blu-Ray is doing just fine right now as it is.
Remember, for all the stingy people moaning about the price of Hi-Def formats in general, if you are not willing to spend 300-400 dollars for a Hi-def player you are very unlikely to even own an HDTV as the average price of a 42" and up LCD or plasma is over $1500. Also, when I say TV's over $1500, I am not talking about Vizio's or some no name brand. I am referring to the TV's made by companies that people know of(Sony, Samsung, Sharp, LG, Pioneer, Panasonic, Toshiba, etc...)
PS3 Poll Police: How was the Uncharted demo? {PS3 Fanboy}
Nov 12th 2007 9:34AM Uncharted is a definite Game of the Year contender if the complete version is like the Demo from start to finish.
The motion is Fluid, AI is smart, controls work excellent, and Uncharted has the best graphics I have ever seen on any console game ever.
One thing is for sure, you can always count on Naughty Dog and Insomniac to make Amazing Games.
Good Job Naughty Dog, Good job!

Nov 9th 2007 4:59PM We have seen Transformers come and gone and Blu-Ray is back where it was on a weekly basis and the YTD numbers have not changed.
You are correct in assuming that SOME, not all $99 HD-DVD players were purchased as Christmas gifts. Whether they were purchased as Christmas gifts or not, it is VERY LIKELY people also bought HD-DVD Software to go along with the HD-DVD players they just purchased so they will have something to watch on their new HD-DVD player. Any time I have ever bought a new game console, dvd player, vhs player, etc. for myself or received as a Christmas gift, I always gave or received a movie or game. Doesn't do any good if you get a player/console but you don't have any software/movie to play on it.
So in effect, HD-DVD numbers should be higher next week.
However, HD-DVD will have to go against Blu-Ray's Spiderman 3 which will be in it's second week(numbers should be decent but not as good as this week which was week 1) and Disney's two new movies will be accounted as well.
So, if HD-DVD cannot put a dent in Blu-Ray's software sales next week, this war is
getting closer to ending with Blu-Ray being the victor.
Note: I did not say Next week will decide the winner of this whole format war, I said the war would be "ending soon with Blu-Ray being the victor".
Not as in next week, but SOON.
And of course, this is strictly my opinion. Something I am sure you could care less about, but something I am entitled to just as you are.

Nov 9th 2007 4:23PM If you re-read my post again, maybe you would understand.
Basically, with the huge spike of HD-DVD players being sold at $99 last week, if Blu-Ray is still in the mid to upper 60th percentile NEXT WEEK when the numbers are released(which will take into account software that the $99 HD-DVD owners purchased that week), I would say this format war will be ending soon with Blu-Ray the victor.
Another obvious thing that I don't think many people consider in speaking about Blu-Ray and the PS3.
Speaking from personal experience ...
I have had a PS3 for a few months now but don't have an HDTV. However, I will be buying a 52" XBR4 next week. In effect, I will also be buying some Blu-Ray's. I already picked up 300 and Planet Earth a few days back in preperation.
I am sure their are thousands of PS3 owners who are in the same boat who bought the PS3 last year or earlier in the year because they wanted to play PS3 games, but were not in the market for an HDTV yet either because they couldn't afford it, or they were in a scenario like me, waiting for the HDTV technology to get a little bit better. Just a thought.
