Switched digital support for CableCARD still on track for second quarter {Engadget HD}

Feb 8th 2008 12:56PM The ONLY reason I stuck with cable was support (and continuing support) of Cable Card and the TiVo S3.

I'd love to have all the HD channels on DirecTV, but I know I can keep my TiVo interface and enjoy SDV later this year.

If this was not the case, I would dump cable FOREVER.

Let's hope they stay smart.

TiVo just doesn't understand HD {Engadget HD}

Feb 28th 2007 1:31PM Same interface?

THX certified?

HDMI out?

Classy looking box?

Nope. I'll take the early adopter route. It's not for everyone.

Thank God for the free market.

TiVo just doesn't understand HD {Engadget HD}

Feb 28th 2007 1:01PM The S3 isn't even a year old. Owning it now is like owning a PS3.
Lots of potential, not yet realized.

But, damn it, I'm watching crystal clear (Time Warner) HD on my Sharp. Right now.

This is what I paid a premium to do. Not watch web content and HDV codecs.

NBC Nightly news to go HD in March {Engadget HD}

Feb 8th 2007 7:53PM NBC shows look great in HD, but their promos are still 4 x 3.

At least FOX has moved to full 16x9 (center extract safe).

I'm sure we'll be the first to mix promos in 5.1 as well...

FCC unties cable boxes from cable companies {Engadget}

Jan 14th 2007 5:20PM The ONLY reason I did not switch to DirecTV after I got an HDTV is Time Warner Cable in Santa Monica supported cable cards in my TiVo Series 3.

The Series 3 is an incredibly expensive device. A free market price, protected by the FCC. Well worth every penny.

Without these rules from the FCC, TiVo would literally have died as a company.

No one can seriously sit here and say that the interface on even the newest non-TiVo DVRs is worth anything.

There's a good reason At&t went along with iPhone. They weren't going to build anything better, for years.

So, because of choice, cable gets my $150/month instead of DirecTV.

Series3 8.1 upgrade at CES {Engadget}

Jan 11th 2007 1:04PM Just got the S3 up and running with my Sharp 46 HD-LCD.

Time Warner Cable, Santa Monica.

Two cable cards.

It upconverts everything to 1080i (ala DVD upconvert).

Amazing unit. Of course I want Recently Deleted, etc. It's coming.

At least I'm getting ROME and 24 on Sunday in HD. At the same time. Amazing box.

Analyst: Apple to "take over your living room" {Joystiq}

Sep 13th 2006 6:29PM If you have children...keeping media on your Mac and streaming it to the TV...incredible difference from keeping track of DVDs, etc. You'll be able to back up videos, etc, without worrying about fingerprints on disks.

Of course, more enterprising techy types can do all this and more right now, but this is a product for a narrow market. Rich peoplez...

Just like it took 2-3 revisions for iPhoto to really hum, it will take time for this product to be fully realized.

I'm willing to give Apple some time. They have never disappointed me before...

...'cept for .mac - which is SHIT.

BioWare defines mass effect {Joystiq}

Aug 11th 2006 7:59PM I live in Hollywood.

When I see true next-gen, I'll let ya know.

Kudos to BioWare, this game is a great first step.

The E3 Demo Reel...big mistake.

BioWare defines mass effect {Joystiq}

Aug 11th 2006 7:07PM Yes, the blinking and pouting look great.

The nav menus look great.

The action looks great.

What is lacking? What are they pumping up?

Sounds like the problem here is Marketing, pushing to release something into the public before it should be seen. I'm talking demo here, not game.

The interaction between the characters in the demo vid is an embarrassment - COMPARED to the other aspects of the game.

Report: US July sales up 22%, DS and EA top sellers {Joystiq}

Aug 11th 2006 6:38PM @ 39

I'm with you. 34, father...and still playing Mario Kart DS at night in bed.

DS has reconnected me with my gaming past. The PSP is just...whatever.

If the goal of the PSP is to be "a little PS2"...then, why not just play PS2/3?

The DS experience is simple, coherent and F-A-S-T.
