Guitar Hero 5 drum kit is faux real {Engadget}

Jul 16th 2009 1:38PM They are above the rims, but if you used a stick and hit the raised up section across which the head is stretched, no sound would arise. Don't talk about cupping your hands, etc, because then you aren't hitting the edge where-in the Logitech set will make an accompanying 'hit' register with the console. That is why these are stupid, the fact that these same drums could not be realistically replicated because of how drums are constructed. Therefore, there whole deal about raised heads is just ridiculous and stupid because it undermines what real drums are like!! Read it again before you comment...

Guitar Hero 5 drum kit is faux real {Engadget}

Jul 16th 2009 11:42AM Here's the problem: the Ion Drum Rocker kills the crap out of the normal GH: WT Drums, because they don't break. It looks like the same structure is in place for that of the Logitech drums, but the recessed rims make it more unrealistic than Ion's kit. Drums do not have heads above the rims except closely when looking at congas which aren't drums. Activision needs to get Neversoft onto the ball by having pad-mapping so that the Ion Drum Rocker can be used on GH: WT and GH5 fully, because it is the superior drum kit--it doesn't break!! [This comes from a drummer who has broken the original RockBand Drum Kit 5 time--3 pedals, 2 broken drum pads; along with breaking the GH: WT Drums 1 time--broken drum pad]

Ask Engadget HD: What's the best HTIB system? {Engadget HD}

Aug 7th 2008 4:39PM Okay, here's the easiest response to liking the Z-5500. The speakers are CRAP! I owned 2 sets of them (i.e., Logitech replaced the set once, and argued for hours). I am an electrical engineer and began realizing the problem with their circuitry design instantly when an electronic device shuts off on the same circuit as the speakers. The excuse given was that the speakers were supposed to be on a different circuit in the house. However, my current home theater system is on the same circuit and does not POP, like the Z-5500's do. DO NOT PURCHASE THE Z-5500's because, bottom line, you will be upset when you turn on or off the lights in your house, turn off your tv, etc. The speakers pop...this is not an isolated case because I swapped speakers, subwoofers, switched circuits, and even contacted two of my friends who owned the same sets (and their frustrations was also expressed). If you purchase these and are upset, you won't get anywhere with customer service unless you explain the technical aspects (which the customer service agents do not understand at all). You will need to ask for your money back, and they will say they will refund shipping up to $25, but fail to mention that it is your original company's shipping costs, not the $40 to ship them back to Logitech. Remember, DO NOT BUY THE LOGITECH Z-5500'S!

Fanswag: win a custom Mass Effect Xbox 360 Elite [update] {Joystiq Xbox}

Mar 20th 2008 11:47PM This 'massive effect' prize would enable me to display why the Xbox 360 is better than the Playstation 3 because you can make lovely art on it appear to be a special edition. Plus I'd gloat to my friends that I can now play Forza Motorsport with 2 side screens as well as the main one!

Giveaway: have an iPhone on us! {Engadget}

Jun 30th 2007 11:21AM I deserve the iPhone because of the following:
* In March of this year, my phone was dropped while talking...and the phone screen and body seperated from each other (LG VX7000)
* Within 2 weeks, I ordered the flex cable to fix the severed connection, and once connected, it worked again (for those 2 weeks I was communicating with an Xbox Live headset through the headset jack, with the inability to know if incoming calls were there. Also, I could not see the number I was dialing!)
* Less than 1 week later, my phone was stolen off of me, and then I had to deactivate the amazingly fixed phone.
*Now I have a 2 1/2 year old Motorola that doesn't even survive 2 days on a charge if no calls are made (Less than a day if I use 1 hour of talk time)
*I always own the newest gadgets, but I don't have the money to fork out for the iPhone!

Man I hope this gets me the phone!
