Oct 16th 2009 6:59PM I did the flash website for these guys. I'm not sure if they've put it up yet, or where. The game actually looks pretty good. Reminds me of oldschool SNES awesomeness! I've growned up now though, EvE is more my style. Look for the flash site and post a link if someone sees it!

Oct 9th 2009 6:48PM Well, also, and this was actually mentioned as a reason for the need of the Dust trooper, is planet infrastructure.
With the Dominion expansion for EvE, inhabitable planets will get split up into districts, each of which has potential for building infrastructure, similar to Sim City or Civilization. If you want to take over someone else's district by force, you can nuke them by air, however all of the infrastructure that has taken days, months, years to build, is destroyed. Thus, the need for a ground war :)

Oct 9th 2009 6:44PM I'm not a big FPS guy, but I love RTS games. Imagine Halo Wars or EndWar where all your troops are actual real life players! Wait.... that could pose a problem though.... Especially with all the 13 year old kids who love FPS. "Where are you going? You're running in the wrong direction!!! No, there is no Spartan Laser!!" LOL
I think it will work itself out though, separating the player-run corporations from the n00b who just wants to play a casual game against computer opponents.

After the quick replay of the old trailer, keep watching, they play through an example match. It does look and play alot like battlefield, except you need to purchase vehicles, and have a commander above the action controlling troops in an rts style. This aspect sounds really intriguing to me. I've been playing EvE for the last 5 months, and while the learning curve is somewhat steep, it really does seem like a vast world where anything is possible. It's really fun. Even better, as someone who runs a business and has a social life, I don't need to "grind" to get the most out of the game.
Also, I should mention that the micro-transaction payment method for Dust at first had me really concerned. Thoughts of "horse armor" popped into my head. After reading an article, I started to reconsider. Basically players can purchase blueprints of weapons, but won't be able to use them unless they are unlocked through in-game achievements and advancements. This means you can't "buy-win". Also, they are simply blueprints, so they'll require in-game resources, etc. This allows the people who want to play every once in a while to play and use other people's weapons on the cheap once they are able to in-game. Those that are a bit more dedicated will pay because they are invested in the game. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the community, because while I wouldn't want this model to be used with a game like Modern Warfare 2, I think it may just work with Dust.
