Fanswag: Wii Fit and a Nyko Energy Pak {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}

Jun 4th 2008 2:33PM I would like a Wii Fit so I can get rid of the bedsores on my behind from playing too much Mario Kart.

Nintendo joins the rest of the world in not welcoming Hitler {Nintendo Wii Fanboy}

May 19th 2008 3:35PM HA! Rimbaud, I think you were racing me! I have been using my Hitler Mii named Adolf for a while, so this article made me think. For those of you who dont get the irony, look at what the man believed in. Since the only answer you can get is the holocost, remember the banning of most materials, and the overall destruction of free thought. This is why making fun of Hitler is EXACTLY what he would not have wanted, so the political message of using a little tiny Mii with a funny moustache is a better message than you think.

Course, little guy, moustache, annoying voice...could have him confused for baby mario.

Ask Engadget HD: When does contrast ratio fail to matter on an LCD? {Engadget HD}

Apr 2nd 2008 4:01PM Okay, lots of good info here, but its lost amoungst fanboyisms...

Contrast ratio is a useless number. There is no solid standard that starts the count, so it means litterally NOTHING. You cannot look at one TV, and then another via contrast ratio, even the same manufacturer!

The only thing you can trust is your own eye. Go to the store, and ask to see something dark on the screens, although, if you want to save time, heres what you will see:

-Pioneer Kuro will be the best
-Panasonics will be good, better than most LCDs, and cheaper, but not as good as a pioneer
-Sony's XBR LCDs will have great blacks, for an LCD, as is probably the best out there from an LCD.
-Samsung's 71 series is right behind there, but can look washed out if set too high, they will grey/blue out really easily
-pretty much the rest are really bad, and if you are really looking for a good tv. I wont even get into opinions about the Funai's and suchs.

Look, there are no secrets or magic out there, spend real money, there is no super saver tv. buy from a confident and well trained store, not a website or a warehouse club. you will find there are lots of good options, and the specs DONT MATTER, use your EYES!

Tweeter jump-starts operations with new stores and concepts {Engadget HD}

Mar 22nd 2008 2:27PM The concept store is actually in Dedham MA, which is considerably outside Boston (about 15 miles). The Boston Store is a different entity entirely than the chain as well. The playgrounds are very interesting concepts, and if you have the chance to see one, do so! Itll change the way you look at electronics retailers.

Pioneer Kuro PDP-5080HD tops Home Theater Mag's HDTV shoot-out {Engadget HD}

Mar 3rd 2008 9:29AM Ahhh, why are they comparing such off models? They get a 50pz750 from panasonic, but compare it to a sony 60a3000? A discontinued model, 10" bigger, and a completely different format tv...This whole article is BS. Where did this selection come from, really? You have Panasonics flagship, Pioneers low end (I wonder where the PRO1150 would have fit, especially since its around $3000 for a 50"), JVC's top peice, Samsung's totally flawed display. Its like they knew what they wanted to happen and hand picked peices to make sure that the final came out that way.

Wait...they probably did...

DS Fanswag: Win a Cobalt DS Lite {DS Fanboy}

Feb 18th 2008 2:31PM It would be a lie to say I DESERVE one. I could use one, it would allow me to donate my DS Phat to the childrens hospital.

Joyswag: Win Guitar Hero III on your platform of choice {Joystiq}

Feb 11th 2008 3:13PM all about ps3 version...

I can say about 15 Rush songs with badass riffs, but Brian May's Boehmian Rhapsody peel off will hurt your hands. If you haven't seen Poison in 20 years, check out CC Deville's solo in his "I hate every bone in your body but mine" or some Graveyard BBQ riffs.

Ask Engadget HD: What's the best universal remote out there? {Engadget HD}

Jan 23rd 2008 2:29PM All about Universal. I have had bad experiences with Prontos over the years. They loose programing, are hard to reprogram, and have battery life issues. This caused the switch to Universal. The MX900 is probably the best for the masses out there. You can pick them up for under $300 if you hunt around, and its the best one I have found. I moved away from the MX950 in the long run, since the battery life does not hold up too well (read: shorts out and does not live). Universal did just put out the MX980, which does put the 900/950 to shame, but at a cost. It does have a colour LCD, and a tone generator (read: fools know they hit de buttonz), as well as a motion sensor, which can trigger a macro. With this, you pick up the remote off the coffee table, and the system powers up. Add the MRF350 and you have narrow band RF, so you dont have to point it (or you put the equipment elsewhere). The final peice of the puzzle is the MSC400, which allows for video and power sensing commands. Now when my mother comes over and just pops on the tv, the MSC automatically runs the opening macro, and boom -- it works. They are pricey, (MX980+MRF350+MSC400 = $1700) but that is the cost of bulletproof tech!

Samsung BD-UP5000 gets unboxed {Engadget HD}

Jan 15th 2008 3:37PM I have had my hands on this guy for almost 2 weeks now and I am not unimpressed, but neither am I impressed.

Pros:
Dual format works fine - blu ray's boot like blu ray's, HDDVDs are a little quicker here than in A3, A35 etc.
HDMI with HDCP seems intact, no crossover issues.
clean look, good remote.

Cons:
Still costs more than an HDDVD and Blu separately.
Runs hot, like all these players.

These are the things that really stick with me today. MSRP was $999 the week it came out, then sammy dropped to $799, where we are currently.

Underpowered projector, meet iPod dock {Engadget HD}
