Warner goes Blu-ray exclusive {Engadget HD}

Jan 4th 2008 6:24PM Today Warner Bros. moves to Blu Ray excluse. Next week Disney will announce that they are moving to HD DVD because of thier preference to Xbox Live or something silly like that. Either way money changes everything and if HD DVD wants to remain alive in this game of high def tennis, they will lure one of the expiring contracts away from Blu Ray. And then the war will unfortunately drag on until 2012 when the Super Mega HD DVD and Ultra Blu Ray Disc formats are released.

Consumers are unfortunately the victims in all of this, being forced to purchase movies for unsure formats. Like someone mentioned earlier in this thread, we as consumers should all just watch our movies online from Netflix and avoid the next gen format all together... Don't we already do that with our music??? Isn't that why there hasn't been a format to succeed the Compact Disc yet???

Michael Bay responds to Paramount's abandonment of Blu-ray: "No Transformers 2 for me!" {Engadget HD}

Aug 21st 2007 6:00PM With the "Format War" aside for a minute...

I believe that Michael Bay is the biggest Hyppo (Hypocrite) in the free world! His titles have been on Blu-Ray for a while now, and never once did he go on a sissy fit about that fact. Now all of a sudden he wants to complain when Transformers will be on HDDVD, whoa! I enjoyed his films up until this point, but seeing him act this way, changes my whole perspective of him (like he could really care what I think).

Anyway,

It has been widely known that Bay does not like to direct sequels, knowing this, he is using HDDVD as a scapegoat to get out of directing the Transformers sequel. I say good riddance, there are plenty of other directors out there who could do a better job at this movie than him. I say give the reins to JJ Abrams, he is a sci-fi buff and would be true to the franchise.

I just had to vent my rage a little on Michael Bay, proceed with your format war, lol.

Universal releases over 100 HD DVDs to date {Engadget HD}

Aug 6th 2007 3:48PM The war is over!

Actually probably not, but I just felt like saying that. Anyway, according to this article, it seems that Fox has come over to HD DVD by releasing Futurama on HD DVD in November. Check out the link...

It will be an interesting thing to see what happens once Fox rolls out thier HD DVD lineup.

Every Blu-ray statistic you could ever crave {Engadget HD}

Jul 13th 2007 3:01PM First!

Although this is a pretty lame chart. Hard to believe that Fox has a 9.92%, since they haven't released a non-release since February 2007.

HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on July 10th, 2007 {Engadget HD}

Jul 10th 2007 6:09PM Xyzzy, You are right, I hadn't noticed the fact that the only studio releasing movies for Blu Ray is Sony. Fox hasn't released a non new release since February (a whopping 5 months ago!). Could this be a sign that Fox is rethinking thier strategy when it comes to Blu Ray exclusivity?

Ok Blu Ray fan boys, you may proceed with your HD DVD bashings!

HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on July 10th, 2007 {Engadget HD}

Jul 9th 2007 2:48PM All HD DVD Owners,

Best Buy is currently selling HD DVD movies for $14.99 right now. Some of the titles are Troy and V for Vendetta. Check it out, previously Frys was selling Goodfellas and The Last Samurai for only $13.99. Time to stock up!

Price drops on HD DVD / Blu-ray players boost sales -- surprised? {Engadget HD}

Jun 22nd 2007 3:46PM The prices of the movies have come down some, Amazon.com is selling some HD DVD's at $17.99. I don't know if this is the same for Blu Ray. Fry's was selling HD DVD's at a shocking $13 each at the beginning of the month, they have since went back up to $19.99 each.

HD DVD players outselling Blu-ray alternatives... at the moment {Engadget}

Jun 12th 2007 3:34PM I remember it as well...

Anyone remember the exclusive DIVX DVD that was only sold at Circuit City???

You know this whole battle between HD DVD and Blu-Ray might actually be won by a different format... Movie Downloads.

HD DVD players outselling Blu-ray alternatives... at the moment {Engadget}

Jun 11th 2007 6:04PM With Sony losing 2 Billion dollars on the PS3 so far. I see them doing one of two things, either dropping the blu-ray option on the PS3 to compete with the Xbox 360 at $199, or making blu-ray go the way of the betamax.

When it comes down to it, it's all about the money. Stock holders cannot be happy with the losses Sony has to deal with, and just how Share-holders kicked Eisner out of Disney, they do have the power to tell Sony to drop the Blu-ray.

Thoughts anyone?

The format war: Pirates vs The Matrix {Engadget HD}

Jun 8th 2007 3:19PM I would like to bring up the fact how successful Warner Bros. has been releasing their movies on both formats. They have made the most money in the Hi Def "War", and seem to come out on top when it comes to next gen marketing. WB was the first studio to commit to DVD, and are the biggest winners when it comes to HD DVD and Blu Ray. Don't think for a second that other studios haven't noticed the numbers. I look very soon for other major studios to take on WB's role of being neutral and actually turning a profit from consumers.

And to argue the point about HD DVD running out of time, if the PS3 is deemed obsolete by Sony, (which may be very soon, with the announcement of an Xbox 360 at $199). Losing almost 2 billion dollars on any product is nothing to sneeze at. Sony is faced with that dilemna, hence the job cuts earlier this month. Unfortunately, the PS3 seems to be going the way of the 3DO (Originally priced at $699). Not a good sign for Blu Ray owners, when their heavyweight champion gets knocked out by their own pricing.
