What we're watching: Football, football -- and Emmy awards. That's the HDTV line up for today. There are at least four football games in high-def: Jaguars at Colts (1 p.m.) and Browns at Packers (4:15 p.m.) on CBS, Lions at Bears (1 p.m.) on Fox, and Chiefs at Raiders (8:30 p.m.) on ESPN-HD. (Some of these may be regional for me; you may see another game on Fox, for example.) Ellen DeGeneres is hosting the Emmys at 8 p.m.
What we're watching: My beloved Michigan State University Spartans take on the Notre Dame Irishmen this afternoon in high definition on NBC at 3:30. Don't miss it! It's going to be quite the match up, though I'm saddened to see the oddsmakers think Notre Dame has a five-point edge.
What we're watching: Not much on HDTV tonight. HBO HD is showing the three episodes of Rome it has already aired, so you can catch up on that series if you want. Also, there's HDNet boxing at 9:30 p.m. with Jaidon "The Don" Codrington and Curtis "Showtime" Stevens. Over on ESPN 2-HD, there's NCAA Football: Houston at UTEP, but I'm afraid I can't tell you what UTEP stands for because I don't know.
What we're watching: There are a couple major movies airing tonight in HD, as well as two ball games. On HBO HD, there's Starsky & Hutch at 8 p.m. At 10 p.m., Catwoman is on Cinemax HD. Over on ESPN-HD, Utah plays at TCU at 7:30 p.m. And a network we don't normally cover, INHD 1, is showing the Dodgers at the Giants at 10 p.m.
What we're watching: "World Report: New Orleans: A Predicted Problem Comes Home to Roost" airs at 8 p.m. on HDNet, followed by Rick Steves' Europe at 8:30. Over at the regular over-the-air networks, some HDTV shows are either premiering or beginning their new season. These include Bones (8 p.m.) and House (9 p.m.) on Fox.
What we're watching: Monday Night Football begins its regular season in its normal Monday night spot (it actually started the regular football season last Thursday), airing a match between the Philadelphia Eagles at the Atlanta Falcons. It begins at 9 p.m. on ABC. It's in high definition, of course, as is Monday Night Countdown, a 90-minute preview show that airs at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN-HD.
What we're watching: It's definitely an HDTV sports Sunday. There are four NFL games, one baseball game and a tennis tournament in high definition. On CBS, there's the Broncos at the Dolphins at 1 p.m. On Fox, there's the Buccaneers at Vikings (1 p.m.) and the Rams at the 49ers (4:15 p.m.). Later tonight, ESPN-HD shows the Colts at Ravens at 8:30. On ESPN 2-HD, you baseball fans can watch the Twins take on the Indians at 8 p.m.
It's a disappointing day for college football fans. Only a few games are in high definition, and they're not exactly the most anticipated matchups.
What we're watching: Tennis consumes the afternoon on CBS, with the men's semifinals (12 p.m.) and the women's finals (2 p.m.) both shown in HDTV. Later in the day, South Carolina plays at Georgia in NCAA football on ESPN-HD at 5:30 p.m. HDNet is showing the Stanford Cardinals battling the Navy Midshipmen at 6 p.m. If you enjoy soccer, the same network shows the Colorado Rapids at Los Angeles Galaxy at 10 p.m.
What we're watching and why: It's college football and NASCAR in high definition tonight. At 8 p.m., it's Pittsburgh vs. Ohio on ESPN 2-HD. On TNT-HD at the same time, it's NASCAR Racing: Busch Series Emerson Radio 250.
What we're watching and why: It's the official kick off of the 36th season of Monday Night Football -- on Thursday night. The Oakland Raiders play at the 2005 Super Bowl champion New England Patriots at 8 p.m. on ABC. Meanwhile, over at ESPN 2-HD at 7 is a match up between Oklahoma State and Florida Atlantic.
What we're watching and why: Clint Eastwood's award-winning "Mystic River" is airing tonight in high def on Cinemax HDTV at 7:30 p.m. Over on Discovery HD, you can enjoy a lineup of fun shows in HDTV: "Rides" at 8 p.m., "Monster Garage" at 9 and "American Chopper" at 10.
What we're watching and why: The destruction of the Gulf region is the focus of tonight's premiere episode of "HDNet World Report Special: The Devastation on the Gulf Coast." It airs at 8 p.m. on HDNet. This is probably your only chance to see the destruction of New Orleans and surrounding areas in high definition. It's followed at 8:30 p.m. on HDNet by another premiere episode of
What we're watching and why: In addition to the usual fare, we have a few blockbuster movies airing tonight in high definition for your Labor Day viewing pleasure. "Titantic" is on Cinemax HDTV at 8. Over on HBO, 6:30 p.m. brings "The Terminal," followed by "The Day After Tomorrow" at 10.
What we're watching and why: "Rome: How Titus Pullo Brought Down the Republic" airs at 9 p.m. on HBO HD. It's the second episode of the new series. If you missed the first episode, you can catch it at 8 p.m. Elsewhere, the Yankees play the Athletics at 8 p.m. on ESPN-HD.
