Universal: 'current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format.' Currently.

Universal Studios issued a terse statement today, denying rumors that the HD DVD stalwart is looking to take advantage of that lapsed exclusivity contract and jump ship for cross-town high-def adversary, Blu-ray. Ken Graffeo – veep of HD strategic marketing at Universal and also co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group – said simply "Universal's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format." That Universal's response was almost verbatim to HD DVD ally Paramount's should come as little surprise. How about this, movie executive types: let us know about your future plans and we'll skirt this whole song and dance, okay?

XM intros Sound System, Compact Sound System

Forget iPod docks, we're looking to dock just about every gadget we've got. Lucky for us, that's seeming like more and more of a possibility, with XM's new docks adding to the trend. Built by Audiovox, the XM Sound System and XM Compact Sound System (pictured) are $99.99 and $149.99 respectively. The Sound System has more than 18 hours of battery life to go along with its built-in XM antenna so you can bring your Radio Disney to the park ... or the liquor store. The Compact Sound System is more of a tabletop device (ie: it's agoraphobic, so best to leave it at home). Both systems come with a line-in jack for plugging an iPod or the like straight in. What, no second dock connection?

The controller's 2.4" LCD lets you browse your music library using a "familiar" scroll-wheel (now where do we recognize that from again?). But you're not limited to your own tunes, you can also tune-in internet radio providers like Rhapsody and Pandora. The Squeezebox Duet "network music system" comes with both receiver and controller for $400, and will be available in the US and Europe this month. Want additional receivers for other rooms, they'll be available for $150 while additional controllers will be available for $300. There's no escape from the music ...
