Pioneer refreshes, lowers prices on its Elite receivers
If you love the good stuff -- and who doesn't -- then the four new receivers Pioneer has dropped into its Elite lineup might be your cup of tea. Slotted in at the high end of the range are the SC-27 (pictured) and SC-25; and the prices of $2,000 and $1,700 respectively even manage to shave a few dollars off the outgoing SC-07 and SC-05. The SC-25 and SC-27 both hold up the ICEPower tradition, and the SC-27 wears a THX Ultra2 Plus badge -- the first class D amplifier to earn the distinction. Add in the Burr-Brown DACsADCs and Wolfson DACs on these two and you've got the makings of top-end gear. Lower on the totem pole but continuing the trend of shaving a few bucks off the older models (VSX-01TXH and VSX-03TXH) are the VSX-21TXH ($700) and VSX-23TXH ($900). As you'd expect, all the Elites get loaded up with a heap of Pioneer's best wizardry, including MCACC room correction, network connectivity and (of course) compatibility with iPods and iPhones. There's plenty of other good info in the press release, so hit the link for the full details.

Burr-browns are not the DAC but the ADC and SRC only. For DACs all models use Wolfson Electronics DACs and for the SC25 and SC27 use the models similar to the ones used in Cambridge Audio DAC Magic.

Corrected, thanks!

They still sound like pioneers... i.e. like crap.... IMHO, of course

what do you consider sounding good, of course, you will be basically telling most, if not all, audio/video journalists that their reviews are all wrong about this line of Pioneer receivers.
but please, tell us what receivers sounded good to you? compared to the Pioneers.

I'm going to guess Pioneer is going to regret killing the Kuro line as I'm willing to bet a reasonable percentage of people who bought Kuros said - what the hell - I'll get a Pioneer receiver and BR player to go with my new plasma. I buy many different brands but I'm a HT fanatic. I work for lots of clients with tons of money who don't really want to look around they just want to buy it and have someone set it up.

You would bet correctly. They would grab an Elite receiver and BD player without even thinking about the price.

I may be a little slow, but what is the main difference between the sc-07 and the sc-27? I recently saw the sc-07 price cuts at best buy, which peaked my interest. It it just an old vs new model thing or are there real significant differences? Thanks

Actually it piqued your interest, not peaked your interest.

Cool! The VSX-23TXH ($900) is the cheapest receiver I've seen with dual HDMI out. A welcome feature for all of us who split out time between a flat panel and a front projector in the same room. Here's hoping that this eventually filters down to the $500 models.

I'm another one of those folks, or I would be if I had such an elegant solution for switching between my flat panel and my projector. I guess I know what to save up for now.

I'm still looking for a high end receiver that will give me PIP or side by side pictures from different sources (Nintendo on one side and Tivo on the other).
My TV doesn't handle PIP
C'mon Pioneer , help me out!
