Mvix Ultio "It Plays All" HD media streamer debuts in the U.S. July 6 for $179
We'd heard rumors Mvix USA would be rolling out an upgraded 1080p capable media box to rival the earlier MvixPVR and here it is. Dubbed the Ultio, it has a list of supported codecs and containers that rivals the new Popcorn Hour C-200 in its thoroughness -- DivX® (3/4/5/6), Xvid, AVC-HD, MPEG 1/2/4, WMV-9, ASF(WMV9), MKV, DVD(IFO, VOB), ISO, MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, FLAC, AC3 -- it's all here, with a slightly awkward Swiss Army knife-themed tagline to boot. The $169 price tag is sans-3.5-inch SATA HDD, though you can add one for $79 (500GB) $90 (1TB) or $139 (1.5TB). Of course network streaming is a part of the package, with Mvix's usual suite of Samba / UPnP / BitTorrent (mentioning compatibility with PlayOn and Tversity specifically to get all your Netflix, YouTube and other streaming sources to TV) via Ethernet or optional Wireless-N dongle. It's up for pre-orders now, take a close look at the specs and pics then get in line before they start shipping July 6.

Assuming the interface is up to snuff ( IMO PCH's week spot ) and it indeed plays all the things listed the Popcorn Hour could have a decent rival, for less money.

No BD .ISO = No Way .. PCH C-200 better support it after making us wait this long for the answer : )

Who cares what the hardware looks like, I want to see some pics of the UI!
JJ @ Jun 25th 2009 2:16PM
Uh oh. Their site says PC requirements are 98, ME, 2K or XP.
Vance @ Jun 25th 2009 2:18PM
No, it does not seem to play all. Where is MOV? I have an HD video camera that records in HD, and it seems I would have to convert all of my videos just to play them.
brodie @ Jun 25th 2009 4:04PM
Yes, it can play MOV files.

Vance: Yes, it does list mov on the spec sheet.
But the Ethernet is only 10/100 Mbps . . . what's up with that?!

Sounds like a great device for me. Price is reasonable. I am mainly looking for something to support my stuff which it will plus a few mkv I have and stream some Law and Order and 30 Rock from Netflix when my library gets a little old.
The PS3 streamer for Mac is nice and free but I don't like running my Mac and PS3 just to transcode.

What's a media streamer? Seriously.
Griffon @ Jun 26th 2009 12:02AM
Sweet, knock that down to $99 and I think they have something. Course assuming the UI dose not suck eggs. Personally I want a hardware deviece that will play nice with My Movies and act as a foe MCE front end.

"It Plays All" without 24p support - good joke.

I used to download movies and burn them unto a DVD disc before watching it on my DVD player. With this product, I download all my videos straight into the internal hard drive of my Mvix Ultio and just enjoy the media I like. That simple! I wish I knew about this before I bought all those darn blank DVDs!
Moreover, a friend came over yesterday and wanted to copy a movie that I have already transferred to my Ultio. I simply connect a USB Flash drive to its USB, used the remote to copy the video from HDD to USB. Very simple!
So glad it was not a mistake purchasing this product. :D

We are required to make our own movie of a particular topic for our Drama Guild. We use several HD camcorders for us to complete all the scenes just in time. We had a lot to do - editing, compiling, etc. but thanks to My Ultio it made our work lighter and easier. It supports .m2ts files which mean all digital video files recorded by the HD camcorders can be easily played. We viewed the videos in my Plasma for us to be able to see more what are good shots and not. Really a great help!

I am very happy and satisfied with this Mvix Ultio 1080. I just bought it a month ago and from then till now, I’m fully satisfied with its functionality.
It’s the first HD that satisfies my list of required functionality. First of all, it has a price that really affordable compared to other HD products. Plus, it has high-end technology that gives me the convenience of easy access to the internet as well as to my computer system.
Being able to own such product is a great step for me.
