Marantz UD9004 SACD / Blu-ray player combo priced & dated
Finally, here's a peek at the Marantz UD9004 Blu-ray / SACD player announced a couple of months ago. Besides posing for the cameras, it has a release date and price now available, due in Japan next month at a cool 577,500 yen ($5,894 U.S.) As mentioned, all that doesn't buy DVD-Audio support, but 10-bit Silicon Optix Realta chipset, BD-Live, and RS-232 are present and accounted for those with the requisite taste and pocketbooks.

Let me guess...based on the new $4500 Denon BD player.

Same as the Denon? Yes and No! When Marantz was originally aquired by D&M, they kept development of the respective lines completely separate. I am even told that engineers from the rival companies would sneer at each other when passing in the halls! Well, things are changing, and D&M is looking to eliminate some of the redundancies in having 2 companies under the same house.
The first products to be developed jointly were the BD7003/DVD1800 and the BD8002/DVD3800BTci. These are the same units, rebadged for either Denon or Marantz (with the BD7003 having slightly better d/a converters, otherwise identical). This will continue with the new BD players going forward.
Do not assume that they are EXACTLY the same, however. Marantz is typically more concerned with audio reproduction than Denon. Marantz may choose to use the same reference design, and substitute better components to make it sound better...no telling until the final product is released, but since this is what they did with the BD7003, it would not surprise me.

interesting take on the BD player with great audio. but...
Why so expensive, a list price of $1500 is the max i could go for this.
also...
Why no HDCD compatibility?
Why no DVD Audio compatibility?
if Marantz could bring the price down and have it be a truly multi-format player. I would definitely buy it. but with it only supporting SACD, im a little un-impressed. it would be alot better to also support HDCD.

Oppo BDP-83, anyone? $499 for reference-quality video & sound, AND dvd-audio included, thankyouverymuch. Sheesh.
Anyone who buys this is a chump.
