Within a few years this technology will trickle down to most projectors. I wonder if this new type system will reduce the need for the extreme light control needed with bulb type projectors.

LED illumination will hopefully breath some new life into front projectors. Not that lamps are bad, they just scare people off.

Current bulb life should scare potential buyers off. Not only short life but expensive. 100,000 hours and a nice price plus better performance in brighter lighting could spell a whole new world for projectors.

Projector Design & Nice price don't seem to go hand in hand.
neither does LED and bright light.
I suspect laser projectors (long life span, bright light and no need for a lens) will be the best answer unfortunatley they only seem to be making their way into very small projectors or very large ones.
on the subject of nice price panasonic ptae 3000 $2500 in the U,S.
$ 6500 in South Africa
So a message to Panasonic go **** yourselves.
Ken @ Jun 6th 2009 1:47PM
Yup, Panasonic is just out to get you, because they are the ONLY company in South Africa to sell front projectors, therefore having no competition and charging whatever they want. Maybe you could look at how much of that $6500 is comprised of taxes, which is a lot.
kevinp @ Jun 7th 2009 5:11AM
Its not taxes. vat here is 14% import duty is 7%
uk price £2000 (probably less with shopping around) with vat of 17 %
Your quite right about the competition there is and for the same money I could but a quality 1080p
projector.
The thing is even with the cost of a flight to the uk and paying the import duty I would still save around $3000.
The difference in price is going to panasonic or their dealers.
Hence the **** panasonic.
by the way the panasonic have contracts with their dealers that prohibit them from exporting.
so much for fair competition.
