Paradigm's Monitor 9 v.6 takes its turn in front of the AVGuide judges
It looks like the crew at AVGuide is making its way through a drop shipment of Paradigm gear this week, and Paradigm's Monitor 9 v.6 floorstander did its part to hold up the company's rep. There's no shortage of competition in the $1,000 per pair price bracket, but the review credited the $949/pair Monitor 9 v.6s with delivering all the traits you'd expect of a speaker at the heart of Paradigm's floorstanders -- impact, dynamics, bass reach and volume; priorities that tend to fit quite nicely into HT applications. Interestingly, the reviewer also found the Monitor 9s to be a little darker in overall character with a somewhat laid back character -- something we've never experienced from a Paradigm speaker, but we're sure many consumers will appreciate. At this price point, you've got to make some compromises based on your priorities, but it sounds like Paradigm got a lot of things right in this model. Your previous post about Paradigms said it right, there's those that like them and those who've never heard them.
My computer setup is a pair of Titan v5s connected to a 20 year old Sony amp, and after playing some loud lossless sample material on this lazy Friday afternoon, I still say these things have no right to sound this good (nor have this much presence and accuracy) for something this small and this cheap.
Oh Canada! :)

Seriously, you couldn't have found and posted a picture of the monitor 9's instead of the 11's? They're really not hard to find.

I just bought these speakers, plus the CC-290 center channel. Running them with an Onkyo TX-SR607. They sound surprisingly good for this price point. Very smooth, yet detailed sounding. Very good for jazz, light rock, etc.
But these are not "rock" speakers. Even though there are (2) 6-1/2" bass drivers, there is little bass response coming out of these speakers. The specs say they go down to only 51Hz. So you will need a subwoofer, if you listen to rock, heavy metal, etc.
I didn't like the Monitor 11's. The bass didn't sound very good to me, and was very muddy sounding. They didn't sound as "tight" as with the Monitor 9's.
Since Paradigm knew, most people would have a subwoofer, they tweaked these speakers that way. They have a 96db Sensitivity Rating, so they are easy to drive, and can be driven VERY LOUD! Yes, they do get ear piercing loud, yet stay very detailed, even with my "mid-range" Onkyo TX-SR607 Receiver. They will easily fill up a large 3000sq/ft+ room. Just pair them up with a good subwoofer and you are ready to rock.
