Digeo offers Moxi DVRs for easy monthly payments

Just in case Moxi's irrefutable mathematics weren't enough to sway you away from a TiVo, there's a new way to pick up on of its HD DVRs - via payment plan. Not to say they've gone all Rent-a-center on us, since both options for breaking down the $799 upfront cost (4 monthly payments of $199.75 or 20 monthly payments of $39.95) are both interest free, but with many buyers looking sideways at big ticket items these days, it could be enough to get customers off of the fence. Our initial impressions of he new hardware are here, and Dave Zatz mentions legal issues will restrict availability of the new pricing initially, but in lieu of actually costing less than a TiVo, is this enough to make you think again?

Crunch gear had some harsh things to say about it's lack of file format support for media sharing ( no avi support, seriously?). http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/04/21/moxi-hd-shocker-no-avi-or-mkv-support/
Some other reviews have observed some the UI choices particularly around series recording are really strange. You also can't set default profiles how series should record (weird, even direct TV crappers support that).
For 800 bucks I would like to see something a lot less first gen come to market but really I think folks are over drooping huge amount on stand alone DVR's it just doesn't make sense and for that much you could have a lot of other great PC based options.

Having used a Moxi, and now owning a TiVO HD with a lifetime subscription from my older TiVO, the answer is a clear NO!
I would not switch to Moxi if they gave it to me free!

Ok, I was really on the fence, but then after reading no MKV/h264 support, no frreaking way. I mean for $800 it should do everything a PC can do.

Payment plans are live on the Moxi website. Jumping on one for the 30 day free trial.

What happens if your Moxi breaks after its warranty? Get another $800 out. What happens if your Tivo breaks? Spend $200 on a Tivo HD. If you have to replace the Moxi once in five years you would have been way ahead buying the Tivo.
Also, here's Moxi's warranty if you want to laugh:
"Similar to other products in your home such as your LCD or Plasma TV, we offer a full warranty to cover against any unforeseen issues. MOXI has a standard one year warranty from the original purchase date. During the first 90 days, your warranty covers both parts and labor. After 90 days, and for the remainder of the one year warranty period, your warranty covers parts."
90 day warranty parts and labor, after that they don't even cover their labor on an $800 box. Nice.

Moxi seems great since the revamp however the trial is NOT available in the following states (As of this posting)
District of Columbia, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming
