DivX 7 for Mac now available

Coming a scant few months after the PC version, DivX 7 for Mac is now available, putting all the h.264 enabled power into your hands, whether it's for good or evil is your choice. That reminds us, we're still looking around for those DivX Plus HD Certified devices (beyond the DivX Connected beta) featuring MKV and many other forms of compatibility, but for now, this will have to do.[Via 123MacMini]

Yeah... I've never quite figured out why I'm supposed to install DivX on my Mac. There's nothing VLC or QuickTime with the Perian plug-in can't handle.

A couple of reasons. First, if you are creating DivX files then you should use the DivX encoder. Install DivX on your Mac and use DivX Converter or Streamclip or Quicktime Pro to create your own videos. VLC can not create DivX videos.
Second, if you purchase DivX VOD titles from sites like http://warnervideolive.com/ then you will need DivX Mac Player to view them. VLC will not work.

BTW, DivX 7 for Mac is Intel only, meaning it's only available for about half the installed base.

This is a total let down to me. I installed the software on my new mac, and it doesn't ENCODE in DIVX PLUS HD. What is the point!! All of my files are now Divx Plus HD, I guess I'll have to either keep using my PC to encode files, or I am going to have to install Parallels Desktop and Windows XP and use DivX for windows. Why the heck didn't they include PLUS HD Encoding on the Mac?!!
BTW, looks like warnervideolive is only French at the moment. ;) I can't wait for this new format to fully evolve, my whole ecosystem at home is DivX and I love it, but very frustrated about the lack of Mac support. Everyone is getting a mac these days so get with the program!
