Jimmy Kimmel debuted last night in HD...let's see if anyone noticed
Surprise, surprise, late night TV had a show or two that had not yet made the jump to high definition. Thanks to our friends at TV Squad, we've got a video clip from Jimmy Kimmel's first broadcast in 720p (embedded after the break.) We're not sure how we missed this highly anticipated debut (probably because we didn't get an invite), we apologize and promise to do better. The day Carson Daly switches to HD we will be right on it (unless of course he's currently HDTV-ready, in which case we will substitute Chelsea Lately, a show we actually watch.)

I can't believe Carson Daly is still on.
What should have happened is; Conan to The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel brought over to NBC for Late Night, Jimmy Fallon given Carson's spot.

I've hated him for years, but his new format is much better and he is finding his niche. It's not quite like the other shows traditionally in his slot though. That's a good thing though. He is doing what he was doing for years and what he is comfortable with now. Skits and comedy were never his thing and it was silly to put him in those situations. I know it's not a hotly contested time slot, but I'm surprised NBC waited it out with him. I must admit I am disappointed by Jay Leno and the handling of his retirement(and then changing his mind). NBC wanting him so he doesn't go to another network is understandable(although I'm not a fan at all), but it will hurt original programming on the Peacock. The ratings aren't quite there, but there are several prime-time NBC shows that are finding their niche that will suffer because of adding him to primetime. I'm sure NBC will lose some of their younger audience with Leno in primetime. It will be interesting to see where they will go and who they will pick up.

I think it is great Jimmy Kimmel is in HD.... finally. But it's Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show on CBS that is the one talk show that needs to be upgraded in HD. It is hardly fair to him that he is now competing against several shows in HD now. Any word if Ferguson's show is going to be broadcast in HD any time soon?

It was not in HD in my area. Then again a lot of shows that are true HD do not get shown here in HD. :(

I hardly ever watch Jimmy Kimmel, but it just so happens I was watching during the first HD episode lol. I had no idea they were switching yet. I sure hope Craig Ferguson goes HD soon.

Meet the Press? Anyone?...

The main reason I don't watch this show is because it's not in HD and it looked awful in SD.
Now I'll probably start watching it occasionally.

I just happened to turn the TV on and was surprised to see Jimmy in HD. When will CBS give Craig Ferguson some respect?!?!
rkolsen @ Apr 17th 2009 12:58AM
Chelsea Lately in HD I would watch - now only if Comcast would carry their own channels in HD.

I'm not knocking her, but I'm not sure that's a good look for her yet.

This is a nice way of doing a switch to HD. Made me laugh!
Agreed on Ferguson, he's the best late night host (well, along with Letterman) - much in need of HD.

That's definitely a clever way to "switch" to HD, Jimmy. Good job. Give your writers a bonus.

sitruc @ Apr 17th 2009 1:27PM
It may be worth noting for some that Craig Ferguson is produced by Worldwide Pants.
