DirecTV iPhone app now available
All those eagerly anticipating the DirecTV iPhone application, and all its remote scheduling, program browsing capability can download it right now from the App Store. All that's required is iPhone software 2.2.1 or higher; anyone can pick it up to check out channel listings, but you'll need a DirecTV subscription and DirecTV Plus DVR (models R15, R16, R22), DirecTV Plus HD DVR (models HR20, HR21, HR23) or TiVo Series 2 receivers with 6.4a software registered to DirecTV.com to take advantage of the remote scheduling over WiFi, EDGE or 3G. And did we mention that it's free?

Finally, yes the web browser worked. But this is already a big step forward. The only negative so far is that you can not view the entire guide and have to search by show or channel. Good start, hopefully DTV will add additional features....don't count on it.

This has been available since this morning. Now what would be cool if we could actually watch the shows we've recorded on our iPhone
Dave @ Mar 30th 2009 4:04PM
The DVR also needs to be networked
Jay @ Mar 30th 2009 4:20PM
What do you mean connected to the internet? If so, no it doesn't mine isn't plugged in and it still records the shows. Unless they changed it cus I just used it through m.directv.com and it worked
Mike @ Mar 30th 2009 4:24PM
It doesn't need to be connected to the internet. The remote schedule info comes down from the satellite.
Dave @ Mar 30th 2009 4:53PM
Well I'll check that out right now!
I've always done the remote schedule to the HR23 in my living room because it's connected to the internet but I'll send a request to the HR22 in my bedroom that is not connected to see if it works!

I used it this morning. It's easy to use, and works well.

The only real problem is that it ignores your Favorites lists and shows far too many channels (including SD/HD and OTA duplicates).

Why does everything that could be accomplished on the web have to be turned into an App for the iPhone?
Dave @ Mar 30th 2009 4:57PM
Because we always have our iPhones with us unlike our computers. & they are connected to the internet at all times

Let's hope Dish has something like this in the works, or releases their new VIP922, either one.
