GE quietly delays premium HDTV line
General Electric came clean with its intentions to delve into the wide world of HDTVs last September... and then the economy, as well as GE itself, fell apart. Earlier this year, we were actually clued in on some of the details surrounding the Tatung-built sets, but now we're hearing that the company is pushing everything back by around three months. GE maintains that the setback is due to "marketing rather than operational or manufacturing issues," though we all know right about now isn't the greatest time to introduce new high-end televisions. We also get the idea that GE may use the time to better implement connected HDTV features given just how prevalent those were at CES, but again, we're really just shooting in the dark here. Oh, we forgot to even ask -- does anyone care that GE's getting back into the TV biz, let alone that its forthcoming sets are delayed?

GE sold off the electronics biz in the 80s... This has nothing to do with the GE you see on the NYSE

Actually, it is you that is mistaken. GE exited the electronics market a while ago, but now they are trying to get back into making TVs. I don't know why though! They really don't have the skills, but here is a link.

It is a joint venture.

These sets are not GE made, they are made in taiwan like other licensing deals.
Wish they were made by GE, but, this probably isn't any different quality than Westinghouse, Phillips or even Memorex licensing out their brand for others to manufacture. (note i am not saying Phillips is licensing their tv's they just license out their name for lots of things ie Christmas lights)
oh well, why are there no tv's made in usa anymore?

The technically-aware folks have their HDTV setups, but for many people it's a nightmare of wires and piles of remotes. And even then they are listening through their TV speakers. Maybe GE actually can provide a simple, one-remote, 5.1 sound system that integrates a cable/sat DVR without a problem. It's something that nobody else seems to be doing.

LMFAO, oh my god, that monstrosity in the picture, that is most hideous piece of technology I have ever seen.
