$400 seems like a lot for a CD player, but for the quality and compared to other audiophile CD players out there, this looks to be quite the bargain.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't you need equally badass speakers or headphones to take advantage of the great audio quality?

if they have/had (haven't checked specs) the ability to use this player as a D/A converter (USB port especially), they would have a huge winner.
