Mitsubishi may be having
some trouble with its LaserVue set, but those in the commercial realm probably aren't too concerned. What they may be interested in, however, are these two. Mitsu has introduced the 46-inch LDTV146 and 52-inch LDTV152 at the Digital Signage Show in Las Vegas, both of which boast 1080p 10-bit LCD panels. These were designed to last and last (and last), with a backlight estimated to survive 30,000 hours -- or around seven years when turned on for 12 hours per day. Other specifications include a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 500 nits of brightness and $2,995 / $3,995 price tags, and if you're into either, you'll be glad to know they're available now.

I don't get it. Who gives these guys the right to charge $3000.00
for a 46". And how do you justify that price and who is going to pay
for it. yeah, yeah, mitshibishi this and that, but if they don't
change their pricing, they'll be out like Pioneer real soon. Mark my
words. You want to buy a TV that is going to change the way you
watch TV (you must like the 120hz effect though). Then go to
samsclub.com and type in 120hz, you'll see reviews on 120hz 47"
philips for $1,294.00 (not the one with blu ray bundle), this is the future of television and picture clarity, see it for yourself. You must be watching a blu ray on it
though. Half the price, three times the picture clarity (up to 6
million pixels), yes you heard it right. I own one and to this day
can't believe the picture.

Its a commercial set for digital signage (hence its extended backlight lifetime). Commercial products almost always go at a premium.

Or you could just get a 50" 1080 VIERA from newegg or Amazon for $1200 and blow that Philips and just about any other LCD out of the water.
Why anyone would pay nearly $1300 for a 47" LCD is beyond me.

Engadget: PLEASE stop promoting dynamic contrast ratios as if they weren't a scam on consumers perpetrated by LCD manufacturers trying to look more competitive with PDPs.

Wow, smartest comment I've read all day. That goes for the 120Hz gimmick also.

My brother has a 50" panasonic viera. He came over and checked out my philips and on the spot he wanted to take his plasma back and get the philips but it was past the 90 days. This LCD is something special. I saw your vieras and kuros, trust me. I am sorry to say, but plasmas are on their way out. This is evolution of television.

The 46in LDTV146 is on sale at Costco for $1099, nowhere near the est price.
Looks like a really nice set for $1100
