Verizon Home wares show up on mobile portal
We knew Verizon was planning remote scheduling for its Home Media DVR, and its Hub is evidence of its willingness to dabble in whole-home devices, but this... this, is interesting. A tipster over at ZatzNotFunny has pointed out that Verizon already has a mobile portal up for its Home products, and given that it's accessible via mobile web, it's completely platform agnostic. We're also told (and shown, after the break) that the portal works despite its "beta" label, as the user was able to schedule a recording on his FiOS TV set-top-box from his handset. We're not sure when Verizon plans on making this more public than it has already become, but why not fire it up on your cellphone and see how it goes?

I've had FiOS for over a year now, and while I'm a fan of the service they have taken their sweet time rolling out features and HD content already available on other services as well as much needed updates to the UI, features, and widgets. C'mon Verizon, quit dragging your feet already!!

Ha! Comcast has been around for over 40+ years and they STILL don't have anything remotely close to Fios. Our on screen guide is the same one from 8 years ago.

So I quickly browsed through the article, hopped on my iPhone, logged in and saw my 3 DVRs listed. TV listing is there, too. Sweeeeet. Now time to record a show. Ummm, its not letting me record no matter what I do. Go back to article. It's Home Media only crap!!!! Hey Verizon, why is this service STILL NOT HD???
P.S. I suppose it's not a total loss. When I call Verizon help desk for ANOTHER replacement Motorola 6416 box, my serial numbers are now in the palm of my hand. Convenience!!

@phatkrome, what are you referring to that is not in HD? The Home Media DVR is HD capable and I currently have the Extreme HD package with my Home Media DVR from FiOS...

@Pete, thanks for the comments. It was SD for so long that I failed to anticipate that they actually might have improved the service! My bad for not checking on the latest. However, I believe I have to turn in my other two HD DVRs for just HD receivers. I save $8 a month and have the convenience of viewing/recording from any TV. I also give up 40 hours of HD programming. If they had a larger hard drive, I might be tempted.
And my experiences with the boxes still holds true. I have to reboot one box at least 3 times every day. I've replaced every box at least once so far. Overall, I would still recommend FIOS over any other service, but as an early adopter, it's been a sometimes painful journey.
