The Simpsons goes HD tonight, new title sequence revealed
Switching to high definition isn't the only change for The Simpsons tonight, with the first permanent new intro since its debut in 1989 making its appearance. Fox uploaded the new opener on YouTube in widescreen, but not HD (embedded after the break.) Lined up with the Daytona 500 and newly refreshed King of the Hill we're liking all the Sunday HD on Fox all of a sudden.

Terrible. Although, now that I think of it, the intro does match the show better. It's just that now they're both worthless.

Their flat-screen TV is connected using a composite video cable, no HDTV at the Simpson's house.
crawdad62 @ Feb 15th 2009 8:17PM
Maybe the three cables that have the ends ripped off and are arcing are component cables? But knowing Homer he doesn't have it hooked up correctly so you're probably right
Michael @ Feb 16th 2009 6:08AM
I noticied that too and made a comment over at TVSquad
Marzz @ Feb 15th 2009 8:17PM
This episode is really irritating in SD.
It's cut off something terrible. They should have letterboxed it. :/
3Penguins @ Feb 15th 2009 8:49PM
Your standard-def Fox station cropped it?? I was watching Simpsons in HD but I read the SD broadcast would be letterboxed. My Fox station (Fox 5, New York) shows HD King of the Hill in letterbox, so I'll assume Simpsons was letterboxed too. Sounds like showing it full-screen was your local affiliate's decision, not the network's.
Geoff D. @ Feb 17th 2009 2:40PM
Fox 31 in Denver cropped it in SD as well. Characters cut out of frame while they were talking... It was such a hatchet job that even my wife noticed!
kevin @ Feb 15th 2009 8:40PM
I thought it was funny that the new TV in the intro was connected with composite cables instead of...well, anything that'll carry an HD signal.
That aside....honestly, I kind of liked the Simpsons better in SD. Maybe because I've been watching this since I was about ten years old and only had a crappy 19" CRT that was older than me. But something about this just feels wrong.
Albanian_Killa @ Feb 15th 2009 9:10PM
The Simpsons is just getting on with the times, nothing wrong with that. Just say goodbye to nostalgia.
Anyway, I recorded this episode. I'll most likely watch it later today. I'll miss the old TV :(
Bran @ Feb 15th 2009 9:11PM
Looks Like this recession has caused the price of maggie to drop :( who says it doesnt affect us all.
Albanian_Killa @ Feb 16th 2009 1:30AM
Haha I noticed the price too! Much more readable in HD!
Michael @ Feb 16th 2009 1:48PM
no more NRA4EVER :(
Kenny @ Feb 15th 2009 9:27PM
Thank you fox for finally putting Simpsons and King of the hill in HD! Seth should take notice that HD is the way to go! Family Guy in HD in 2009!
Danny @ Feb 22nd 2009 1:30AM
I get Family Guy in hd on TBS
bizket @ Feb 15th 2009 11:41PM
Watched it tonight since it's in HD. First time in years. Too bad it being in HD didn't make it funny.
Romesh @ Feb 16th 2009 9:20AM
lol I'll pay that
Mike @ Feb 15th 2009 11:47PM
I love how their new HDTV has a new Digital-Converter Box. HAHAHAHA.
Of course, not the first time the Simpsons has been HD. The Movie and Ride (at Universal Studios) both did that over a year ago ;)
DeadPlasmaCell @ Feb 16th 2009 1:46AM
It looked great, as did King of the Hill.. then it went back to ugly ass SD with Family Guy & American Dad..even my wife was like "Eww.." I almost choked on my water when she said it.
David Susilo @ Feb 16th 2009 8:00AM
too bad the show still sucks
David S @ Feb 16th 2009 8:01AM
unfrotunately the show is still garbage-like
Mike @ Feb 16th 2009 8:46AM
Best looking episode ever.
vhato @ Feb 16th 2009 9:40AM
I guess the Power Ranger/Pokemon Generation doesn't get it. Ha ha ha ha ha, Or maybe these are the Leave to Beaver people.
Absolutely fantastic, except for all the mosquito noise added by the carrier.
John @ Feb 20th 2009 4:09PM
Did you notice Maggie was worth $243.26. Funny !!!
Dead_Rebel @ Feb 17th 2009 10:19PM
If by $243.26 you really mean $486.52, then yes, yes we did notice.
Eric @ Feb 19th 2009 3:49AM
surely the cumlutaive total was already at $243.26 before maggie was swiped. After she gets swiped the value is $486.52 which means that she was worth $243.26 (486.52-243.26). Unless you say that the breakfast cereal was worth $243.26 on its own then that's a different arguement!
