Pioneer prices latest trio of Blu-ray players
When Pioneer introduced its BDP-120, BDP-320 and Elite BDP-23FD Blu-ray players at CES, we had a vague idea of how much they'd cost. Now, we're being clued in on actual MSRPs. Potentially most impressive is the BDP-120, which will offer up BD-Live functionality and a Pioneer logo for just under $300. The mid-range unit includes 1GB of inbuilt memory and will cost $400 or less, while the top-end player will demand $599. Kudos on keeping these priced below the stratosphere, Pioneer.

As absolutely AWESOME as Pioneer's 50 and 60-inch plasmas are, I hope they broaden their US product line a bit. Don't care how, as long as the quality stays the same. Being they will have their panels built in Panasonic facilities, why not add a 42 and 65-inch to their lineup, giving them a 42, 50, 60, and 65-inch range, and they could still do their LCD's to satisfy people who want smaller displays or are plasma haters (32, 37, and 46-inch if I recall correctly).

I'm gonna start saying "inbuilt memory" now lol... that was great...
Unless this thing loads a blu-ray in less than 3 seconds, and has netflix support, i'd have to say its a little much for the price... But sometimes you gotta pay a premium for sexy... so i guess its priced in lol...

i like that Pioneer is finally bringing more cost friendly blu-ray players. though i think $400 for a BD-live model with 1 gb ram is about $50 too much. but still from a company that traditionally has charged way too much... good stuff.

The BDP-120 could street for $200 not long after release... fairly respectable for Pioneer. That said, I they may be blurring the line between standard Pioneer and the Elite brand a little too much... A few years ago there were plenty of people who would pay a $100 - $200 premium just for the gloss-black finish to match their Elite AVR... now they can pick up a standard Pioneer player that will still match the finish of their Elite AVR. With the 1018ah AVR being 99% overlap with the Elite 01TXh, it's easy to have Elite quality gear at non-Elite prices... which is great for savvy shoppers but not for Pioneer's bottom line and brand differentiation.
