Toshiba's REGZA 52XV545U reviewed: she's a beauty
Given that Toshiba's 46XV545U was harshed on pretty seriously by CNET a month ago, we weren't expecting much when going into Electronic House's review of the 52-inch Cinema Series REGZA 52XV545U. Contrary to popular belief, this set was said to be fairly awesome, with it producing "realistic color with precise picture detail and resolution free from visible artifacts." Critics even went so far as to say that its picture quality was "well above par," with both OTA HD broadcasts and DISH Network signals looking as sharp as ever. Potentially most unexpected was the praise given to the Super Resolution upscaling technology, which managed to produce "some of the best viewable images from regular cable fare" that reviewers had seen. Bottom line? You should probably give this one a look in person -- it's too tough to tell what your eyes will see.

The interesting thing is that this still isn't their best tech.

I own the Toshiba 52RV535U which also has the SRT feature and it really works well on every type of material. I simply don't know what CNET is unhappy about. I watched the Steelers - Ravens game on Sunday, from the regular old SD cable feed and it looked awesome on my 52 inch screen. Not as good as a Hi Def signal would but WAY better than any of the other SD signals I get, simply because the original signal actually was Hi Def from CBS. The SRT circuit can really improve it over the other channels.
SRT also works great with DVDs. This set is an absolute gem and selling for extremely low prices here in Calgary, Alberta. I paid $1399.00 Canadian for my 52 incher. The only problem I've noticed is the greens are a little too bright right out of the box but I've remedied this by calibrating the TV with the Joe Kane DVE disc. Using the disc's supplied red, green and blue filter I was able to make a few adjustments to the green setting the Color Master settings and it looks just perfect to my eyes.
I can't imagine a better set--especially for the price!

All that information in a review from a professional, and yet no mention about off axis viewing, probably the biggest single complaint about LCD displays from all other reviewers. That seems like a pretty big omission.

Andy,
The off axis viewing is pretty good with the Regza 52RV535U, and since this is the less expensive run of the Regza series, it will be quite useable to you, too, unless you want to sit way off line.
There is a tiny bit of colour shift but nothing to seriously put you off these sets. Buy with confidence :)
