Memorex MVBD-2510 Blu-ray player sinks below $100
Check it, deal seekers -- yet another milestone has been reached, though we get the idea the deal won't be around for long. The patently obscure Nebraska Furniture Mart (we know, right?) has just dropped the price on an unnamed Memorex Blu-ray player (we're betting it's the MVBD-2510) to below $100. Even for those that aren't within driving distance of an actual B&M location, you can pony up $10 or so on top of the $99.99 price tag in order to have it shipped your way. Just think, in six months we'll have a half dozen BD decks to choose from for under a Benjamin. Or so we very much hope.

"The patently obscure Nebraska Furniture Mart (we know, right?)..."
It's not 'patently obscure' if you live in Nebraska.
Nebraska Furniture Mart is a HUGE store owned by the not-so-obscure Berkshire Hathaway. You know, the one with Warren Buffet as CEO. :)
Mr_Fizzlepop @ Jan 19th 2009 6:40PM
OMG! Did you read what I read?
Warren Buffet is Behind Blu-ray now '.'

are they still making non-profile 2.0 players???
I mean I suppose its good and all that the prices are coming down on BD players, but if it is just going to add to the confusion then they should just clearance out all older players and go ahead and drop the price on 2.0 players......
one thing is for sure Blu-ray IS going to be much more than Just a "Niche Product" as many people were saying before......I mean LaserDisc was a niche product and I knew 3 people with LaserDisc players......I know over 80 people with Blu-ray players.....15 of which are not PS3s....

"I know over 80 people with Blu-ray players.....15 of which are not PS3s...."
Sorry, I call BS on that one, most people would be hard pressed to even name 80 people they know, yet you know 80 with blu ray!
Enough with the fanboy paranoia pleeeeease.

Sorry if you dont believe it......but most of the people I know with them also make over 50K a year......they have HDTVs and wanted the content....
"Fanboyism" my ass.......
and as for most people cant name 50 people they know.......I'm not most people.....thanks to my line of work and contacts I know WELL over 1,000 people, hell I've got over 200 people in my family alone that I talk to on a monthly basis.....

This crap has to stop.
There was big news at CES. Manufacturers were, for the first time, announcing sub-$200 players. Not close out deals. Not special promotions. Actual players that would retail for less than $200 as soon as they hit the stores, and probably much less.
Engadget ignored it. Why did they ignore it? Because they've been pushing the "We found someone selling a BDP-350 for $120 on eBay!!!1! OMG!!" crap for so long they didn't realize it was actually news.
What you've posted here is not news. It's a screw up. It is not news that some obscure retailer we've never heard of has mispriced a BD deck. Stop doing this.

great to see these coming down in price. i just wish the BD's themselves would drop in price. i would love to be able to just go into Wal-Mart and pick up a sub $10 movie spur of the moment. i realize alot of that comes with the age of said movies but still.
i think they need to work on informing people about these more though, do you know how many people dont even know these play DVD's and CD's too? crazy to think.
GundamWingEW @ Jan 19th 2009 7:50PM
If the movies themselves came down in price I'd so pounce on a lot more movies. As it is I've got a huge shopping list on Amazon but since all my disposable income is going towards other stuff and I've got bills to pay I honestly can't justify buying freaking Bluray movies right now.
shawnmos @ Jan 19th 2009 7:58PM
It's not even available anymore.

I love the idea of a furniture store in the Heartland selling blu-ray players lol
If you bought one by 3pm they were throwing in a slice of Aunt Betsy's pie and 2 wood carvings the "slow kid" in shipping made.

What are you, some enlightened Californian that refers to the rest of the US as "fly-over territory"?
jere @ Jan 19th 2009 10:06PM
That's cool, but right now the price of the movies is more of an issue. Sure, it's possible to get them cheap sometimes, but I went to best buy and target today, and the majority of blu ray movies were $30.

Im from the "heartland", and Nebraska Furniture Mart is the biggest furniture AND ELECTRONICS dealer around. I have lived other places on the east and west coast as well and have yet to find a store that carries the sheer number of electronics under one roof. The main store is in Omaha, but they also have one in Kansas City. I was in there over Xmas and couldn't believe it, but that Blu ray player was just over a hundred bucks then and they had plenty of them.
kevin @ Jan 20th 2009 10:43AM
"product not available"

Just wanted to let you all know that Nebraska Furniture Mart is an awesome store. The only thing keeping them from going national is the sheer size of the place (The one here in KC is as big as about 50 Best Buys). In fact when you buy something like a TV you have to pull around to the side of the building where they have about two dozen people involved with bringing out things that people buy that they want to pick up immediately. It is insane and hard to fathom if you've never been to one. And for the record I just picked up a Panasonic Plasma there last week that was priced about $350 less than what Best Buy had it for. I hate to sound like a salesman for the place but they really do run a great store.
Jeff @ Jan 20th 2009 6:41PM
If you live anywhere in the middle of the country you have heard of Nebraska Furniture Mart. People drive from states away to shop at the store. They dwarf any BestBuy, Circuit, or Sears in the area combined. The size of 3 football fields of showroom space

I have one of these that I bought from Woot, but it won't play Max Payne and there is no recent update, can anyone help?
PB @ Apr 19th 2009 9:43AM
It's fine as long as you play old blu-ray and regular DVD. Can't get "Marley and Me" to play. Tried to update their firmware. It is a joke - terrible instructions. I have burned 4 CDs trying to get the info. DON"T BUY THIS.
