It may be a new year, but
DISH Network is still dropping HD locals like it's going out of style. The satcaster has just announced that seven more markets can find their local broadcast networks in high-def, so we'll not keep you waiting on the details: Abilene, TX (KTAB CBS Ch. 32 and KRBC NBC Ch. 9); Joplin, MO (KODE ABC Ch. 12 and KSNF NBC Ch. 16); Little Rock, AR (KARK NBC 4); Louisville, KY (WDRB FOX Ch. 41); Springfield, MO (KOLR CBS Ch. 10 and KSFX FOX Ch. 27); Wichita Falls, TX (KFDX NBC Ch. 3 and KJTL FOX Ch. 18); and Wilkes Barre, PA (WYOU CBS Ch. 22 and WBRE NBC Ch. 28). With these additions, DISH now sits just 10 markets away from having HD locals in 100 DMAs. Almost there, DISH!

Well, technically, the Little Rock channel is just an addition to ABC and CBS that they already have here. Just missing Fox now.

I love dish, but here is my issue. I live in Indianapolis, 11th largest city in the USA, and they have no local hd channels. This is garbage, Since when is Little Rock or Wichita Falls on a priority list. It urks me that it has been like this for three years now.I have an OTA locals now and they keep cutting in and out. I swear, if there was a better sattelite provider, I would switch right now. Comcast, Comcast hasd it for 5 years now, And I pay for my locals $6.00 and no locals HD. Really pissed.

If they can't provide local HD channels for Indianapolis, screw'em. I just switched back over to Comcast and a TivoHD after Christmas.

Yeah they say you get locals in Waco, TX, but then Fox HD was cut off at the end of '08. There's nothing on their website that says anything like that when you sign up. My friend canceled his Dish on the spot and we ended up watching the BCS title game over the air.

Ditto on the Indy comments - not feeling the Dish love here

Remember folks, it's not just like Dish can say, "O.K., let's do HD locals for X city". They have to negotiate contracts with the local affiliates to carry the channels. All the locals that were lit in HD today were owned by Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc. I agree that it's stupid Indy doesn't have HD locals. Go complain to the affiliates. Tell them to get off their cans and get the contracts done.

I read a few weeks ago that they were bringing HD locals to Fargo, ND this year. Anyone have any idea when that is gonna happen?

How about working on HD locals on the west coast? What's the problem?

I'm in the Joplin market and heard that Nexstar and Dish Network had reached an agreement. I was excited that we would be getting two of our local channels in HD. I contacted Dish Network to find out when this would take place and was told by the customer service rep. that he couldn't find any information showing that. As far as he could tell there was nothing showing our locals would ever be in HD. I'm not sure who to call to find out. Any suggestions?

Bad time to spend all that money to get away from dish! From dish networks site:
http://www.dishnetwork.com/turbohd/localChannels/default.aspx
Indianapolis is coming soon!
doubleofive @ Jan 26th 2009 10:27AM
Thank goodness Indy is listed on that website, Ryan. I'm about to flip out watching the SD signals. I just noticed in the last couple weeks that WXIN just shows the HD signal on the SD broadcast but cropped! You can see the watermarks and ads going off the edge of the screeen!
Fox [H
But how soon is "soon"? And they better not charge me more. My TurboHD Bronze should have the freaking locals in HD.
Ryan @ Feb 14th 2009 10:30AM
Price should not go up. If you pay for local and get an HD package then you get the locals in HD at that price. I just saw that Dish is not increasing prices for 2009 too (crashing economy and fear of losing customers?).
I'm hoping that they'll come in by mid march . . . (ahem, dish. ..do you hear me?)

I was told by dish today that the locals they have here available in HD are NOT available to me. They are Eastern Arc, and apparently even though I LIVE in the actual city these originate from, I cannot receive them. How ludicrous is that?
markpcfixer @ Feb 1st 2009 6:26PM
btw, I am in Springfield, MO
