Europe to see HD broadcast of Obama's inauguration
For the first time in history, a US presidential inauguration will be broadcast in Europe in high-definition. Thanks to Eurovision, European broadcasters will have access to "full HDTV coverage of the ceremony, Obama's speech and motorcade produced from a battery of cameras on location in Washington." According to Eurovision Americas president Bill Dunlop: "All over Europe, networks are planning special programming to bring this historic day to their viewers live." Now, about keeping the snow at bay...

‘For the first time in history’ ? I don’t think it’s such an historical event as say, the first worldwide radio broadcast, or the telegram…
All it means is we might be able to see a few more blemishes and wrinkles on the US president!

For better or for worse, like Reggie Jackson of the New York Yankess, the US is the straw that stirs the drink....love us or hate us, and there is plenty to dislike about us, this particular ceremony, whether seen on TV or read about in a newspaper, affects everyone else on the planet....good luck to us all.

Wow. Could you have any more American imperialism shoved down the world's throat.
But it is in HD...
Mike @ Jan 13th 2009 10:35AM
"Shoved down your throat"? How is that? Is watching television mandatory in your country? You don't wanna watch, then *don't watch*. I won't be watching; I'll be at work.
Ruprecht @ Jan 13th 2009 10:53AM
It will be on the TV, it will be in the newspaper, it will be on the radio, it will be on the internet.
I guess I could turn into a hermit for a couple of days...
Just put the shoe on the other foot, and think about if you had some random foreign head of state show ponied around like the second coming on every available medium. There is no "out" for this kind of rubbish - this is "history" and you'd better go along and roll around in it OR be a temporary hermit.
Of course a 30 sec bit on the news is warranted, we are a global community. But to have "live" coverage and dedicated lead up shows on nearly every medium is obnoxious.
Hmm, el Presidente Vasquez on the majority of TV stations, newspapers and radio in the USA. Not going to happen anytime soon. And if it did, you'd be whinging too.

Can someone tell me why europe gets to see this in HD, and we apparently not? All three networks, ABC, CBS and NBC, list the inauguration broadcast as not being in HD. The only one in HD is Fox News...
THizzle7XU @ Jan 13th 2009 1:23PM
I could think of a million more things I'd rather see in HD. I mean, I really don't need to a guy put his hand on a Bible and say a pledge in HD, if I even care to watch it in the first place.
Shadowguitar @ Jan 13th 2009 12:43PM
Keeping the snow at bay? Do you mean snow in Europe? We haven't had any real snow around DC all winter, and it isn't supposed to start now.
Badger @ Jan 13th 2009 1:37PM
Great... Witness the beginning of (up to) 4 years of the devastation of the USA
in HiDef..... Oooooohhh, I can't wait
VinylVision @ Jan 13th 2009 4:06PM
Lots of stupid comments here. Of course everyone everywhere who has a set capable of receiving HD should view everything in highdef. I am grateful to all content providers who provide HD content. HD for everyone, everywhere! Die SD die!
Harryposter @ Jan 18th 2009 3:33PM
Most of the guys responsible for the stupid comments above don't need HD anyway.
They are already blind...
For the rest of us who are not, please get a life and let us enjoy the inauguration in glorious HD!
