Broadcom produces MoCA-integrated SoC for HD STBs
Ready to sling recorded content around your home via the coaxial wiring in your home? Broadcom is. The outfit has just introduced the industry's first MoCA-integrated SoC solution for use in high-def set-top-boxes and gateway applications, which would theoretically "transform a subscriber's existing coax cable infrastructure into a whole-home media distribution network." If you still can't piece together the potential here, we're talking whole-home digital media distribution over one's existing coax network, and DLNA support is thrown in too. Who knows when your cable company will decide to adopt an STB with this within, but tomorrow would be good.

MOCA?! SOC?! ....oh oh! I know STB, thats 'set top box' right, and of course HD is obvious. Oh well I am ignorant I guess.
That looks like the DirecTv hd dvr, so I'm interested.
Ok, I'm off to google for MOCA and SOC....

MoCA (Multimedia over Coax Alliance)
SoC (System on a Chip)
move along

NO, no YOU move along. Yeah, that's right, take that......you can .....you can move along you MoCA-ucking S.O.C. Get it, get... Ok, I'll shut up now. I'm just being stupid.
MoCa seems to be one of the bigger progessional ideas coming out of CES. Hey, anything to get more out of what we got and faster sounds good. Less touch screening, more media streaming.

That picture of a DirecTV DVR, which was apparently picked randomly, means nothing. None of DirecTV's current DVRs support MoCA, and a software upgrade cannot remedy that.

That's a lot of acronyms! It must be good!

"Who knows when your cable company will decide to adopt an STB with this within"
This is another example of why we need the ability to supply our own STBs instead of renting from the cable companies.

Sounds like my ChannelPlus which I've had for years.

Verizon FIOS already uses a MOCA router and several STB's with -some- MOCA capabilities -- including a Media HD DVR that sends recordings to any other HD box in the house. I also use NIM100 devices to network my house using the existing coax and that same FIOS MOCA router...
So, what exactly is the big deal with these new SOCs again? Perhaps you left out a detail or two that might make this seem groundbreaking...?
